Family SwimThe Leisure Centre will be open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Family Day for a family swim. The weight room will also be open during those hours. All children 18 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older, in the water with them. Storm Hockey
The Grande Prairie Storm will host the Sherwood Park Crusaders at 2 p.m. at the Canada Games Arena. Bring the family out for an exciting afternoon of AJHL hockey as the Storm challenge their division rivals in a battle for playoff positioning. Families can come and enjoy the festivities at Muskoseepi Park from noon to 4 p.m. There will be fun for the whole family, including sleigh rides, skating on the pond, ball hockey, snowshoeing, clowns, Arctic sport and fencing demonstrations, building a birdhouse and local performers. Family Day will feature the grand opening of “When the Sun Goes Down,” a new exhibit that portrays “recreation, entertainment and leisure activities after a hard day’s work, in a time before the computer age.”
The launch takes place at 3:30 p.m. Monday and admission is free. Free Fishing Weekend
This weekend (Feb. 14-16) any Albertan is invited to fish for free, with or without a licence, courtesy of the Alberta government. From noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Moonshine Lake Provincial Park near Spirit River there will be snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, nature activities, wagon rides, snow golf and a fishing derby. There will also be hot dogs, coffee and hot chocolate to warm up those icy fingers.
