While I was paying 340CAD/month for more than a year, I抦 paying

: w* @: R9 ^" x1 P6 ^1 gincreases the tuition fee by few percent every year and international ! Z! x) i' f& a4 U* {6 Z4 P; U5 }
differential fee was increased by almost 20% last year. Add to this,
# Q, P7 ]5 f$ P r* L/ X3 w( tthe fact that the university housing has no more space for newcomers 5 l. m1 n$ a- k. h }
and most of the newly admitted students who applied for housing were
9 E6 H1 @6 W+ H& S# xasked to look for a residence on open market.

While the average cost of living for a typical graduate student has 2 Q- J& e \' s" |9 d
increased by something more than 70% percent we are getting paid % a8 X# I5 r) w9 y4 c. X$ v
exactly for the same amount of money that we were offered in our
- J/ |6 }- k$ Oadmission letter (18000 CAD + 1500 CAD for international students
/ e) d9 }; p8 a( e/ u ^=19500CAD. What I get is something around 1000CAD/month!!! after
& E% i: Z. t" U. }tuition fee and taxes). To make the argument easy to understand just
2 T0 o3 o! U# L# ]( Z5 qimagine that a new student gets the same amount of money that I am
# _, Q4 e) G, W4 _7 Ngetting now and I was getting 3 years ago but he or she (like all of ( {4 G* P$ ?1 p
us) has to pay twice as much as I was paying for housing when I was 2 T5 q0 y& ?9 Z# e0 E) t) \1 C3 b
admitted and has to incur at least 70% more in average living costs.' n+ A0 l9 X( f* r2 }$ n- S* {& v

Also have in mind that Alberta is a rich province and University of * t$ z j/ V$ O& z) j4 _
Alberta has a remarkable record in absorbing various money and grants

students are the main pillars of research work at the university.% e8 H5 p& P n% }/ M
5 `2 p- ^" y2 N' OMy objective in bringing all abovementioned points in your attention . U# V8 y6 O$ R- b
is to question the adequacy of financial aid for graduate and 9 S6 W" v7 J; X: M4 t
especially international students. Isn抰 it time for the GSA to take

6 {9 v0 m5 c8 l% c( l" o% X3 @; oinitiative in raising the issue of increasing financial aid for
! N; R4 B, ^; ~! h: a; Y! mgraduate students so that the can afford this increase in costs?
