The VERTO Project
4 _6 G. M% C! e( q) K# |The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will( E; I' P# j; N
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based# o, D( {) V( w' k' `4 W
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day, i& c8 g& g/ L& q
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that+ A( H7 ^! k0 ~, S
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
5 ]: k3 `, F1 {$ u+ D" k! s; }4 BYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our _& {) R2 o! x/ ?
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
( l2 |8 j ]# |1 n& z. B3 Uconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
Z. s. l: j3 K$ l5 k( D5 S' R- fVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
* A+ L9 c: z' d' {/ Enecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
$ V7 _9 h' A( x7 l3 Oyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
0 r5 A5 U j0 _" Eparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
5 F V Z' b N7 p/ j0 R5 udevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
6 _% `0 {3 q0 {' Y. `+ e" mexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and1 b' h5 [2 ^7 E2 o6 g
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
R& e0 A( s0 S- g6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
: o, }% c3 i0 }The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central0 w0 Z* }4 T2 j: A3 @. P: ?
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week); u4 X) ^- J5 K8 u W6 {* Z" }& r4 V. P
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the' V' @, o- Z2 ~4 j% f, B
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are, Q! V; B. X6 c# N& o
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
6 j5 |. L) l1 \: x" B% Q• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
7 W0 l# q2 D, x+ p( D$ xbeing realistic to each youth participant
S5 }: Q% {, P4 N8 R$ A• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the) S9 P% o% K' [5 b% U7 |% q
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
) X/ q9 l: [, C/ ~each participant
1 N# m9 E+ u7 [) A; T0 c6 j• Assist youth with employment development including the development of, z1 b" ]3 F. _1 F% i6 @3 ~1 P. r' `
cover letters and resumes etc.
& G7 N0 g4 c# T @• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work9 n! T) ]4 D3 O/ N+ T: B
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the2 |* E/ m; u, c, t8 }
placements
4 C$ k, |* V) l5 y* @2 @• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
: ?# |$ x& v1 a; [4 P/ l8 z# vthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
# T! `# _3 r/ B• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
0 M# A3 S3 ^/ S4 _/ e- Q' R* uis being fulfilled for each youth
* z$ m |" P: T• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are. \' G" j) E B8 T7 N! B

Experience Required: Employment Developer
v& s1 B: }7 G0 R) \, ~ Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted5 Z7 G" Y d' ` o7 k8 l' M0 ^/ A
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

 Strong skills in building relationships with industry and youth

 Strong leadership and active listening skills
