The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
4 Y. T( a8 C: S3 r% K- _- }" w7 Mbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
1 e, Z% J6 V: r' [8 |/ }employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
, b8 o, l2 a0 G! t( o, _2 eprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
7 x2 H/ J! C4 A4 t- x5 z) _conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
- s) A7 N/ y, h. k4 ?9 R7 V# cnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
6 u: v# _+ h1 m& }7 I" T; ~wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
9 Q5 C: Q' m/ b( t- d, Q6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
# ?6 u8 `9 y: s9 {2 @: j( uThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
4 G( g: J: ]0 D  G$ sYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
extension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

5 Q8 u( ]( a" U• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
# }+ q! R! z: u: z- zcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
being realistic to each youth participant
* F, z# c8 L: _# }  Z! D( x. e/ q• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
0 d' M3 i9 S3 c, a) Lyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
9 r5 k1 |6 V  h+ z! g4 heach participant
6 I( l+ P' w0 @# `$ {. N4 k• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
cover letters and resumes etc.
1 @0 ]1 P- X- ], M$ a4 Y9 s- P• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
. l' k1 r( x! Fplacements
$ _( H1 y% g: K  Q; K0 H. I: H• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
, m* P7 N8 Z/ Lthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
5 W$ W- R: c# }' v+ l• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
( \6 g3 a3 C. Q' X2 P( _1 H- X0 i. his being fulfilled for each youth
2 N1 }+ A9 n5 _+ s; T( h• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

+ Y1 G4 m" E& [' AExperience Required: Employment Developer
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
- i8 M  ~3 F0 d. L/ I A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

 Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organizational and

 Strong skills in building relationships with industry and youth

: ^5 o& A& n  Q- Wat risk as it pertains to employment
8 p  \" H% S. a0 ~ Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
 Strong leadership and active listening skills
