The VERTO Project

bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based5 u8 c( m$ X4 H# H V, F& t. B& |0 W
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day# \( X$ V( O; [( H- D: s9 o
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that. F5 |% m4 X$ T% a! T
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.& K( ?7 K& W/ {: `# z& z
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our$ c$ B: `$ R. M* X- L4 k2 ]7 h
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve2 a0 }5 \- Y& {' Y0 _3 k* q7 H
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the; Y: ~% r8 ], X+ K; U' y0 k; h
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
9 w* V2 \$ y3 k+ rnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
' X5 b3 y' E* T! r0 H2 W( ^$ R7 f/ xyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
2 ]4 _2 V; q$ O9 \& y" y& t: hparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment6 m; a% Y* K ~* f( J. I
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
3 e# n3 J x0 Y* E5 D, {4 sexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and+ T- S/ ?. _ U# s/ a7 F9 g
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a( X. \8 _" n/ f4 s1 V. ]1 t. I
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
: O2 o1 R o, a1 C' bThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central! M. \6 N# \4 H+ k+ e
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.

`0 G( A0 s# _- t' F+ }5 s5 wcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
) b. @2 m/ U$ h9 k$ Pwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
) e( [: h. g3 ~4 F. M7 v( m- y& y, Q• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
; r% f5 y( h1 _* ybeing realistic to each youth participant
% [% C( W: z; Z' k/ B• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
, A+ e; E; f6 w! ^6 S4 }( Tyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to0 h/ \1 g7 p6 e" W. P# l, @% l1 r. `
each participant4 k7 \2 {+ O8 Z4 e
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
* Y% R" w3 e2 U& Ccover letters and resumes etc.
, k5 C) ^: @( s' r8 A) \& Y• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
3 ~/ f% H }: Bexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the4 ~- [( E* |0 g W/ I- Q& U
placements
* g9 p) s0 j$ I• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating+ S0 J+ {8 n. h/ W, Q0 i5 F: k: F
the process, and supporting the youth where needed, i: w/ o8 x3 {. h
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
. z+ r( H7 G& {( |$ K/ b Vis being fulfilled for each youth& ]6 q5 @+ k. H D
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
8 Q6 c. b: f/ ?7 z2 krelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project7 i+ f/ l! T0 V, T6 P
• Other tasks as they arise within the position, g" \! w0 l* ?+ C( A- V
Experience Required: Employment Developer
+ ^* v6 j4 p8 g4 k$ D Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
5 a6 c$ F- p/ ~6 |+ W2 q G A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.$ d* w- I3 W1 h$ i% f. C+ S( s1 v

 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
