The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

Responsibilities include:+ S+ i }% f" U) E! H
( L1 N4 d/ E! V0 P. I8 G5 O
1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)4 z; d) V% Q) y& b
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
3 E5 s0 l6 u/ W3 e• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals: E( q. P- w& ~' g
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored+ J- a' |0 x3 u# L" [8 c
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
; M1 r3 ]% i9 b, k+ S" u0 k• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)3 s4 ~( P0 M! u7 Z/ Q& [
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.3 y; b9 T6 j8 n, F& X- f
+ n3 d8 G7 c* X, E5 S3. Tracking System' o1 j7 [$ R9 y6 T1 Y: B
• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s 0 V* u9 D5 n$ H
/ z" x) R0 [9 vCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.
