; o$ \9 \- r: z6 f# |The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

Responsibilities include:

  K; }0 R8 z+ x1 v' [) c1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
7 Q3 V; C+ l$ ~6 t• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
! {7 w' T. Q% U  c4 ]• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
, u$ f' n3 w0 H• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
. @9 f; k8 k( q; s( C( K+ H( x* \; d: C• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

1 Y1 ~# x8 b9 w4 h0 l" C$ e• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

% P! c/ ^/ T) m: Z4 M$ T  P8 D- WCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

) u; }9 K& z6 A% o/ m2 z) HThis is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
