K; `% |0 L: J9 hAs part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. ) |. l" M: j7 C. \/ t, h) j/ K! h! P

* g) g9 Q5 H3 R9 j  X6 O' KReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:& s" J* G  B8 p/ u+ u: {
•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
2 G% g/ S  z' ~. `8 b- E% j•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
: h' g, S+ u' A6 |•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module1 p, {9 S: w3 U( @
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's2 O" }/ r% N- V2 M; L
•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers

•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline- {: }" d' m$ ?8 x! Y* t& e6 L
•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset3 ~& p( A9 k+ n% Q' R
•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience/ [5 m+ i! d) s8 ]9 `3 O
•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems9 i# w# R1 A6 ?2 e! O/ I$ x
•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
0 R1 B' \6 g. {•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
! L7 Z4 u+ I4 v% B# ]•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST5 f. X9 h6 H  \% ^! H7 Q
•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills$ o. \$ L5 T0 U- b6 r: ]& _
Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.   c9 ~# J; S; [: f( }7 f" N
Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.
