As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. & H* }$ O) X% ^# Q$ v' R; T
; l: _$ D1 ?( V) F$ G) F9 CReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:/ t! K! @' x( Q1 P1 M4 J9 D2 a; Q2 W9 p' _0 F
• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment' r, h$ P3 A4 X( {
• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements! V# v8 u: c6 t3 t+ o4 m
• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module

• Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers 3 ~1 ]- v# P3 j/ @; B
Job Requirements:
. G- S' C( _6 t/ M) n; |% g, N8 S• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
$ p; \+ A+ m, ]. C6 d• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset& p2 e4 f7 ^+ [' x
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
, q6 N0 @& r1 E0 S• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
, _% U4 w. E- B8 g2 E% H• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
" g1 Y2 {% W- H1 l: n• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies+ K: Y, N3 \1 j, K" X! ^
• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
+ A6 z# D8 i! e1 e& ?+ ^• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
