 The Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers requires a fulltime Settlement Practitioner to deliver settlement services for Temporary Foreign Workers in the Edmonton region. This is a term position to March 31, 2010.

 The project will focus on the following aspects of newcomers settlement services:4 k  ]! K3 ^: w4 j0 d( d
 • Marketing and outreach to industry and workers
 ( }4 j( U8 m! X6 v• Outreach delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”
 % r4 R) H$ p& o• Centre-based delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”

 Position Description:
 ! c$ K% J4 d! p3 I. J8 F- ~The Settlement Practitioner will be a front line practitioner, providing settlement7 p9 i$ j+ p: Z, J! a* i
 guidance, information, orientation and referral services for Temporary Foreign
 " y  t  l, H: g# s. D7 CWorkers, including matters of employment, housing, language, immigration and( {( T- L- C2 [" M0 P+ I
 supportive counselling by telephone, emails and in-person.' W! l5 a" G# V! r6 E

 The Settlement Practitioner will also be required to deliver information and
 9 i4 ]/ P: b( R* @$ q8 ^! o: ~! ?orientation workshops related to settlement needs of Temporary Foreign workers.

 maintaining all information and records required by the program guidelines.

 • Provide a detailed needs assessment of TFW’s referred from EMCN staff,other service providers, industry employers, as well as self-referrals1 f3 `) C8 W' L
 • Establish and maintain relationships between EMCN, other service providers and industries employing temporary foreign workers and promote settlement services at EMCN+ [) B: L! Y7 |! B
 • Maintain close relationships with the Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office  g& g; G! c2 D/ w. R6 E( D
 • Provide counselling to help temporary foreign workers adjust to Canadian life,make referrals when appropriate, develop needs assessment and action plans if required/ h* j4 V4 n4 I) A, K7 O
 • Assist people to fill in application forms, prepare for meetings or appointments relating to settlement or employment

 • Assess and refer individuals experiencing critical or complex immigration and employment difficulties to appropriate service provider or government agency, ~2 U7 H0 y2 I# p  T
 • Facilitate and coordinate delivery of workshops related to settlement of TFW   S; L$ p; ~3 b0 Q: ~
 • Promote English language services for TFW and employers
 - J8 c8 y8 D% m• Arrange interpretation and translation services as required$ C! k' _% `  O% ~
 • Strengthen and build supports with community groups and volunteers
 ( o5 S0 z! i( z1 S7 J4 _% E• Provide service delivery duties as required Desired skills, education and experience:
 ' b4 \  J/ H& ^: M• Minimum of 2 years of previous experience as a Settlement Practitioner in an intercultural/multicultural/cross-cultural context
 * J" z) c5 {8 R" |• Relevant post-secondary education in social science or human service area
 * z% Z- O* x" Q: k4 q5 f1 t; F• Excellent written and oral communication skills
 |$ s! j5 X4 V% F) i) S; c• Strong commitment to providing quality services to newcomers and to working in an intercultural environment with cultural competence
 ( |5 z2 X* Y5 V8 o( _5 _' t• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based workplace, demonstrating flexibility in organizing work, showing initiative,judgment, resourcefulness, good decision-making
