 6 Y% H3 V3 f' p+ x" FThe Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers requires a fulltime Settlement Practitioner to deliver settlement services for Temporary Foreign Workers in the Edmonton region. This is a term position to March 31, 2010.

 The project will focus on the following aspects of newcomers settlement services:

 • Outreach delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”

 • Supportive counselling services

 ) N( h4 ]: Z. |The Settlement Practitioner will be a front line practitioner, providing settlement
 9 X$ ]* ~! Y! s5 p8 d7 V. f2 \guidance, information, orientation and referral services for Temporary Foreign
 ; z9 D0 D- D8 b1 L9 rWorkers, including matters of employment, housing, language, immigration and& S" O) Q+ o0 z  w  t1 b
 supportive counselling by telephone, emails and in-person.9 r% r6 ?5 ~7 d. w/ A: h

 The Settlement Practitioner will also be required to deliver information and
 9 @! o2 ]2 |- M/ k2 L; i2 R# C5 _orientation workshops related to settlement needs of Temporary Foreign workers.
 6 Y4 ]( D; Y" l6 R3 d/ pWorkshops and group sessions will be centre-based, employer/industry based and
 % H* ?+ A3 g0 H! lcommunity based. Some internal and outreach weekend workshop facilitation is" U( B9 `" Q& I3 P" B; k

 This position involves working as part of a team to provide services, create an5 e9 h) M3 U% I% i8 O9 H3 d5 @
 understanding of temporary foreign worker settlement issues, being innovative and
 2 c% e  a3 P0 kimplementing solutions for TFW facing a variety of challenges. It also involves

 • Provide a detailed needs assessment of TFW’s referred from EMCN staff,other service providers, industry employers, as well as self-referrals
 / j+ O% K9 V* d  [• Establish and maintain relationships between EMCN, other service providers and industries employing temporary foreign workers and promote settlement services at EMCN
 . a3 I4 p" T) D3 m8 C• Maintain close relationships with the Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office
 5 }" L' o- p( E' P2 p2 a. ~  @• Provide counselling to help temporary foreign workers adjust to Canadian life,make referrals when appropriate, develop needs assessment and action plans if required# b" Z5 k  `4 |8 z* {
 • Assist people to fill in application forms, prepare for meetings or appointments relating to settlement or employment* M) I, ~% ~' P$ s6 R- N: w
 • Take clients to view apartments, open bank accounts, register for healthcare and become familiar with community services
 + P7 B3 G3 Y3 J+ e" I4 M• Assess and refer individuals experiencing critical or complex immigration and employment difficulties to appropriate service provider or government agency
 - e8 C4 K/ j, p( Q' O* c9 _, \• Facilitate and coordinate delivery of workshops related to settlement of TFW
 , W' \' O% e& m  b8 }  U• Promote English language services for TFW and employers
 $ x+ e* h. L, I( d  s: r  F! O• Arrange interpretation and translation services as required3 n; q( x  q- W+ \$ [" K( O
 • Strengthen and build supports with community groups and volunteers' x( C* {3 o! X; I' M$ w$ K
 • Provide service delivery duties as required Desired skills, education and experience:. X; P6 u6 ^' d. B- g" `5 ~
 • Minimum of 2 years of previous experience as a Settlement Practitioner in an intercultural/multicultural/cross-cultural context: T& y7 q$ R# F! \, i
 • Relevant post-secondary education in social science or human service area
 " j- S# [" F- E• Excellent written and oral communication skills/ {( \: B. A/ \, u$ L
 • Strong commitment to providing quality services to newcomers and to working in an intercultural environment with cultural competence8 ~) M6 W8 `2 i  k  O5 e, @9 S
 • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based workplace, demonstrating flexibility in organizing work, showing initiative,judgment, resourcefulness, good decision-making! \3 A$ p$ ^  `# n7 ~. m9 B, |
 • Proficiency in English is essential, as is fluency in other languages  E  p) ?" a1 z. ~
 • Spanish language proficiency is an asset2 D, t7 [' n6 l9 x% \1 K
