Duties

    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
. S* B& R1 c/ o. i- Z    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
# X. T! t( a1 A2 ^7 J    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses
    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth
    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program
    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment
5 D2 W6 R5 B; \7 u    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly
# K* k: i: K: l+ S# W    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities
, `: Z' z  M" G$ G# h& X2 u" B    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

4 ^3 o& H& f% W* F
    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
( z& a: G+ N* Q    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
6 x9 J0 g0 K: z; p* D# O/ a    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community

: H" U4 Z! I+ J$ z    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills

( F+ k8 F/ K- \2 q6 Q    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills
5 K/ F, q2 N9 t+ D1 E5 M    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
