This position ends one year plus a day from the date of hire.
Duties

    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
. U7 o# K: k2 c! h3 }% f+ A    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
) C. }7 E4 t2 \4 G    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses

. t6 Z6 u2 Q, a5 P% j+ e    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
$ `% Q& U) s4 J  K( i    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly
    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities
. }  B2 _3 N4 y    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

Qualifications

  h, `9 a/ Y# O0 v$ ?    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
& L* D6 G  U3 \( P0 Z* [: {: H: T% ]    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
& p+ z0 K# Q6 F: o7 r    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
' Y& T- s1 N( i- I; u$ j    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community
    * Fundraising skills an asset
    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills
0 r. r7 v7 ~! }    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills
    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills
; G( d. o0 W  K& O; v% v. w# J% Z" Q    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
