Edmonton police are investigating two killings from early Sunday morning, the city's 20th and 21st homicides of the year.

In the first incident, a 30-year-old man is dead in what police are calling a "gang motivated" shooting near Whitemud Drive, the Edmonton Police Service said in a press release.

At approximately 2:20 a.m. MT, the EPS responded to a call of shots fired at a silver Infiniti near a Whitemud Drive overpass at 170th Street.# ^* x2 ?+ T% Y# |) Z

One male passenger fled from the vehicle before police arrived, and reports indicate a small white car was seen fleeing the scene after the shots were fired.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are still under investigation, but police believe the incident is not random and is likely gang-related.

Meanwhile, one male is dead and another is in police custody after an altercation between two groups in an alley early Sunday morning, according to an EPS press release.( u* ]- |9 L. h y; \8 r

At approximately 2:45 a.m. MT, officers spotted a vehicle being driven the wrong way on Gateway Boulevard near Whyte Avenue.' u- B, L* O. y
: ]8 W. N$ h0 _$ p3 A7 UUpon stopping the car, the officers learned that one of the passengers, a 24-year-old male, was seriously injured.

A police investigation revealed that the three male occupants of the vehicle had been involved in a physical altercation with two other males and a female near an alley south of Whyte Avenue, between Gateway Boulevard and Calgary Trail, which resulted in one male being stabbed.6 Y" A# j& J: k" X.
