Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
' G6 z' `- V7 a; b" V$ B( {Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule& E9 @$ Y# ? I+ W7 T
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about2 ?1 z! S9 r7 O k3 z; F
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste1 n* ?9 H3 R' m
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;8 v$ d; Q' i# \, N
vermin-composting and residential recycling.: _- _; r+ t: @
' ?" J3 E2 D# ?- D* u
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips& j; O1 y* [7 Y" c! d0 t, R
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates0 Y1 u8 H$ T% ?( m
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:" K I& \$ \- A+ ]
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
, z4 Q: I+ c( P4 \# kresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the1 n) _# G) M" @5 y/ C9 }
importance of composting and recycling.( F* e; g3 C( N# [8 C9 V7 S# C" H
$ R% h2 l0 E1 h/ {+ V( H* {% z: O
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the, }% M+ c+ s( f
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;7 p! Z: o' @' Y2 w" P6 F- S7 g
public education display booths; assisting with programs and8 @+ m8 F: o) W& e. Y2 o
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
u# f' g, j* p2 d, e/ D8 s: @- Fvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school

, k' Z7 T& T {There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
4 ?8 r j6 A4 h3 a0 jvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the. U; }6 T& U4 d4 q
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your( `8 Z) o8 U4 v; E6 e% [; z3 [- S
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master

Course Dates: April 14 - May 2nd, 2009 -Tuesday and Thursday evenings2 U) I' j. @$ j% T
-Saturdays all day - for three consecutive weeks.
