Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

! U9 h0 q: Z) N3 G/ |( ODear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
: w; G& z9 i7 N3 sMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
* d+ f" g3 c/ b" O5 X! V5 J! e(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about+ K8 E0 F, T7 \1 V8 q! H* |
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
7 e0 D- g3 U. F& x) U j! T7 t3 Q0 L. `management; home composting; household hazardous waste;& `- V" m Z1 V% T) e
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
' [, U$ m K% [4 A
9 C6 I2 ], a5 c' zThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips6 Q+ r" k, V C* k) W/ f+ z
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates* r% Q3 ]; w! |' o, `
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:% D, L; z, R1 ?
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
/ s Z# n. H6 M! E; l) r$ L* k- Tresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the; Y+ O/ \. O C/ u- B1 \# i
importance of composting and recycling.! B$ N2 Y: ?2 F/ B/ ? q
) m& G: }4 M+ m6 NExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the% x" y$ _. Y ]+ P6 f
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
. ^; N, c/ x5 J" B S( B4 ]public education display booths; assisting with programs and3 n1 m7 w9 Q2 f& n
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at7 _# u) b3 H( p R
various demonstration gardens and general public and school

Course Dates: April 14 - May 2nd, 2009 -Tuesday and Thursday evenings
