Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

2 l: H/ m/ t4 u% R2 ?& SDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the$ i7 ]" c3 S9 |2 m
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule' u! V3 W6 I% K
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about. T3 B6 F( N: _7 Y
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
5 W M' V8 b0 ?4 m Gmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;1 ?& n4 o1 z& L1 I4 Q, M
vermin-composting and residential recycling.2 `, |' g G. h* Z
% v% c/ j L+ E& {
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips6 B" }$ V: D( L* Y. ~. }' |! j
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
; U6 t( N' Z7 \3 {! |2 W) P, Acomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:: J3 A$ {' }; U# u% f1 [# P3 C
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
1 k3 y9 u3 z* O3 S+ Jresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
' M/ j, G. _/ ]6 U) t2 bimportance of composting and recycling.
- V4 T5 M+ S# Z& N5 G( Z* `( H; k; p1 ?6 ^5 l5 \& q
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
+ j/ u, x9 e4 O! L& xReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;& `! o1 @% Z( a& |" X! `4 D* P8 ?
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
' R# s- r5 Z5 M3 C4 l6 \# dmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
5 t- I5 [+ S5 P) \; a1 P% @ Lvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
& |# ~1 @1 B( W4 T% J5 Qpresentations.

$ Q+ H" }9 h4 e5 O; ~. o6 V3 P) G! P7 w$ ]There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
, Q9 _: Y! }9 R! Uvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the" J" y& @8 I; D
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your6 `7 K- {2 c4 y: G1 v: O4 a" d2 a
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master4 M) B: K. G3 }& ]
