Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
) j8 o$ L% M( E4 dMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule7 G z$ l6 v5 B) |$ T( b- E
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about9 J( w# `% L% w, \
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
3 ]' f5 {8 ^ W1 r8 X. @management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
+ A) F% g% B% P" v" C. u: [( }9 Cvermin-composting and residential recycling.0 U$ O+ S: U+ ~, V; Z8 o
) A& z+ {. ]8 e' v. L; h) AThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
. j8 l- R: `- N+ s% E. H+ Tto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
/ T' {9 O( B9 c* F; r1 g1 R0 i) Jcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
3 d% v1 p: L& @3 Y9 ]) d preduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
* l) C q( I( presources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
! z, j# G0 V, q. \/ }/ [importance of composting and recycling.. P8 [( N7 I4 l. f
/ |' z% j \5 ~9 y/ Q9 G6 W0 sExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
3 _# k L( S: m/ p7 l/ }2 EReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
- t% s5 o8 z0 Spublic education display booths; assisting with programs and7 j R4 `2 `% i* T
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
" E# N; Q$ ]% d' y8 q, `various demonstration gardens and general public and school
6 H( k8 b& |% s4 U, ^presentations.# W7 C. ^# i& v. P

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
: a% b& w/ R' y7 E1 i% H" evolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the% K# e% s& ^. v. A
