Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

) F1 D! L4 D; v5 IDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
' H3 z8 d1 M0 _- ?' \- IMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule) e; |% u+ B% z6 a# ^
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
/ a/ s6 v: ]& R+ L aenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
- F, @) {- `1 ^8 e# Ymanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
9 g& }' [& ~3 d5 avermin-composting and residential recycling.
$ r0 F$ q. \3 E$ Z2 h( u5 t8 k. e% V. M+ a% |
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips( U4 x# i! l9 S4 K4 |1 s1 K
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
! }6 T# W9 ~, kcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
. q) @4 S! b3 s b3 m* Preduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
0 B' _+ L$ u, Zresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the" y: v1 }6 v# o* ?' i3 \
importance of composting and recycling.

7 R# k! p1 H1 \% J/ u6 d# sExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
; }3 s7 k8 G$ B% P9 K+ rReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
7 q* g" \) [5 z' E. Y3 m+ J; B rpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
) c' {, J/ S( u$ F: Q, t+ dmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
" u3 W1 D; y' j6 p! h. M( x2 uvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school3 @$ H- E2 J9 O5 o! }0 ?
presentations.& j6 B( F1 D$ Z/ M9 ~( m6 `
4 l9 N' S. f) \4 u) iThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and) p0 w5 ^# v! `2 v
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the* }- o4 B- f: h0 X1 A/ I
