The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
& o4 g6 s% |0 ?5 u5 Xthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
+ ~; I4 Y) O) F6 N; Qthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
/ _' K! W/ f+ x6 G5 CEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
! \& K& A9 n9 dsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
; e( g; s( H! J9 N/ u' D. W! _Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the + v0 d4 r/ _6 H- h* U! B
community the agency serves.

Responsibilities 9 u3 O+ w. j0 t% e
5 v% L  e6 W. z3 Y& J) y
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
/ \* i% g, ^- L4 @* ?1 i( wexecution of the YWCA Strategy
& H) h+ @( U# ^' P/ [
% y- w4 `4 l( ?, LSpecific responsibilities include:  , g. L1 [, ?$ `" v6 D

5 R) P; {5 {0 w. t•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
  a2 @! f- y* g6 Q" ]* H  F# Bthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
6 U' ~8 i' M) g, ethe Board of Directors;  8 ~% y) [- a$ x5 \& [
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
+ Q2 _/ `% c' f6 Dincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to ; ~% X6 G  b* @; h: Z! w
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; & Z$ \" _  N) \9 Q7 }
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and " O* f$ w7 M, f) V
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 6 }- V+ x) d* V
the board;  4 ^0 }+ k: y# J# R: M
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  : x$ i( Z: F4 E; a: d% j
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
" N& X  }9 |$ L3 ~3 L4 i* \the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
+ ^. c9 G# o, X' t1 ], u5 f) Y7 D•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the - d* v% J2 J$ ~
changing needs of the organization and community;
+ i0 Y1 L' |0 f  u' u•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
# C$ I) z! d) M3 @8 v" i  I9 Pcommitments;
5 g% _5 d% X+ S3 H: C•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  2 @$ g- _# x* X8 ^* o- A
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective * h8 H" Y8 d" _
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
# s5 p. c  R' l" J( k•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; , e  f' a2 G' K  a# a
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to * T$ \$ h$ u. N/ l' C( G
effectively and positively represent the association; * ^- A% L1 u0 T, D$ N3 y+ V

: q% N+ a4 o3 c5 R' ^1 D•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
" C* a: i% ~+ Xthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  3 f6 X8 d7 y+ H! b  o; o# A
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
4 G5 N5 J. M' d/ Rperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED . [+ H0 W) p( A% z8 c& r: r) p
the forthcoming year;  . C- b3 B, @& l3 M
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical * f' A/ @- H7 ]0 P
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
7 h$ r5 D/ h6 J. LYWCA Canada; and 0 ^7 X$ W3 u" t3 A
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
6 t$ v9 a+ `5 H  q' p6 sForces.  " O) W: z% ~5 ~& ~4 Q7 y

Required Skills & Abilities
( z5 D, M8 g& C4 J•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 4 v. _  v! o* f9 L$ g
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
0 b" L) U1 N/ L9 Jaround decisions, plans and actions;
0 e; U/ n- B9 {5 M1 k. \8 u4 m•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
5 z4 K. s: v! Z. z7 j•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
. G' c) y. b, q! o4 wand achievable with realistic timeframes; / P/ W* S3 T9 E) M! S
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

7 i0 {& C1 R7 D! K; m) W1 S; l•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build / W! o$ N. [3 P8 H+ W
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;

Required Professional Designation / Certification 5 ?( C/ q$ }) v# s' B3 D) {( Y3 H
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. ! t3 \/ m; E' j9 _$ `' s) }

Required Experience
, c+ o* m* E, [9 j3 d6 T! @•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
8 L- _7 B5 l9 H! V! d2 g! }, K•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 5 k- V% _9 X" Y8 y
abilities;
4 e. u4 f6 C1 Y6 A4 M•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, ) w$ G3 S7 t7 C* t1 l9 j0 f1 j, h
Networking and Fundraising; ) B* c7 Q# J$ _/ x0 x! A6 a5 ]+ S
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
5 Y; b# _9 g8 @and financial statements; and
5 {- G# |4 t7 {•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women * L  x' J" R( m7 x
centered perspective.
