Position: Child Care Worker / Location: Edmonton / Salary: commensurate with education & experience / Closing Date: July 30 2010 / Position Abstract: Bissell Centre is a nonprofit community resource centre providing support to people living in poverty within the vision of neighbours helping neighbours. You will be responsible for creating & developing an environment that meets the individual social, physical, intellectual and emotional needs of children aged infant to six years.

Some duties/responsibilities include: personal commitment to Bissell Centre Mission, Vision, Priorities & Values; ability to implement the “Learning Through Play” philosophy in day-to-day programming; ability to develop monthly program charts; daily & weekly activity charts; ability to take into consideration the children’s individual interests/developmental levels when developing program activities; ability to develop programs that enhance self-esteem & encourage children’s independence, social interaction & creativity; strong listening and verbal communication skills with the children, parents/caregivers and ECD staff.1 E6 U4 E% r1 T. o- e$ h) I' u
* @, n; Y5 C- k! i9 YPLUS: ability to establish rapport and trust with the children & parents/caregivers; ability to adapt or modify a program to allow children with special needs to participate; knowledge of behavioural & developmental disabilities (for example: ADD, ADHD, FASD); knowledge of possible signs of abuse/neglect; knowledge of community resources pertaining to children’s health & education needs; knowledge of Daycare Licensing Standards, ITERS/ECKERS; ability & desire to speak with caregivers about parenting issues and share information about child development; ability to work well within a team.1 K: p" F, h6 F* s4 J

Education/Experience: Level 3 Early Childhood Development Diploma from a CAFRA (Child and Family Resource Association) recognized College; familiarity working with children affected by behavioural and/or developmental delays; familiarity and experience with issues of poverty and the urban core.

7 r- k8 X8 {& V; V; OSkills & Abilities: Behave ethically, build relationships, communicate effectively, focus on client needs, foster teamwork, make decisions, have organizational skills, be able to plan/solve problems. It’s physically demanding work. Must be able to lift and carry approximately 30 LBS.0 F# p4 Y9 C v0 T2 e" n1 K
