The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
: ?, i3 N9 M8 E" H8 f, h5 o6 ^Roles and Functions2 v3 ^5 J! V/ w: b f
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
6 a0 t% R0 f. R7 u/ c0 p' i) horganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the; Q2 E$ Q5 p# F8 v0 F- [
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has$ U' R# D( m/ c( ?( B u
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
0 f3 ]% S' m# p9 J# r# boperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular6 @4 N' [" o: E# f( v
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is* @; S6 H/ N8 d l& v
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an" m3 s$ j8 k) [4 |+ Z# n7 E2 W! f
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
0 Y9 S, B- o0 m- B; n! Rstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend. g1 B$ Q+ G9 O! N; Q
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.( i7 t1 A' V1 ?

4 M& ?1 k4 Q4 Q' U k, p; p: AThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:" j! O* S a2 j8 e
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the; V! h4 t {! k4 h
officers of the Coalition" u! H2 F/ S- {3 L0 M2 X) r- u6 r
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural' h& E% c1 W2 E4 Q2 f
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations9 f; t. p/ i: I! ^
and public institutions
! m; J5 j* d" q6 H; e% E3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through, ]( z7 ]6 c) g4 @1 _2 u
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives- k! ]; l/ {3 }' }" V' O" r
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
/ v2 A+ ~( O) }) b2 M. Vorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with t& J6 Q( e9 W- {* i ~8 h

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society' g Q5 S6 Z; r7 u
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working/ x2 { A) D2 _4 `+ S
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:* d7 U- E) ?4 N
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
$ [& e f; L0 p5 E5 Nregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of" B6 G3 z5 ^/ @) N3 q4 k
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the; R+ t7 B; _ c! b, }& c# F! Z- Z
members of the Coalition’s financial condition., X7 o# ^) |# r' j. F, e; s2 C; R3 c
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
) {- K2 u) z8 T) g! pMulticultural Coalition
7 D1 A" v% @! X- a0 h0 F5 a/ @Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board U v; S1 E% x# U3 ]% g
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to3 W7 A C3 {$ @1 i- s) L
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
8 B4 V. p9 J2 @. C8 D1 S& }% moperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.; X5 m2 \, Z! i" C# {
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
4 l5 }' z' k' u: E6 `" Waims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should: Y! w- p6 @+ v
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
. ^7 t. w1 B% u; g3 ] ~# z+ t) mparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
) L r' O1 c) C7 v- } ifacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
2 h5 A6 B, t" l9 x4 idirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
8 E5 N2 H" `+ l" _7 Cstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
+ w+ e: t5 q2 i1 |matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
3 g' F7 s# S; J+ N3 u, ^1 {directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power
