Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3) _( n9 r7 c1 ^. Y4 P$ v" f
megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution" g z5 I4 i& V5 @- E; n+ D! S
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color
# Y( K+ a+ A* q. gmatrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance2 v" j! {' C$ _. r- `
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800
% t+ J5 ^$ q6 B) J' r' b- i) F1 B6 Tallows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject3 _% E0 D# @/ T
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography& F; T5 o3 A8 B8 M* W: c
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum
/ `; g* q0 j4 w# L$ fimage quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was
$ u; [1 W- }0 c$ S* e" D6 @5 `widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and
4 g# D, f- Q+ I" ^ P% xconvenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown
) w9 u/ V( T/ {' g$ a+ l& }before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,' E U, H0 I: G" v" M
thanks to the D800.
: P/ q; V' f4 Q( ?: r+ iWhen I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,
# }6 k* G( j7 F ?% |6 D! Q* N: y36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
/ A; G+ F" g5 F; m$ Frange, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces
4 Q3 X f( I6 t( }5 y+ }$ a0 l7 x# ^the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a% [* A6 v. s3 T
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as' t' S2 B8 @% b2 V# a2 b8 \
well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
/ U6 e( o$ U- Q% G" U# q1 p; UAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor$ f# e$ _- q) l6 W( d$ _
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
% U6 i* V: P7 g( a) weasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while+ v5 ?6 @8 ?- Z Z' o0 j/ s0 b
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New
& c7 k# f# `/ w/ J- jcameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
2 u9 P5 L5 }9 B: e9 Y% O# ain such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality& x$ J) s- `, c3 D" W7 b: Y; }
prints and video." J Y z" ^. X
To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
% _ c9 a% Z$ v' B' wnot megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models
: B* f: j; _+ Z2 l$ n9 ?: ?are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using% A% @5 d5 K7 F6 B2 B
countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first2 U) A+ M! p) i% n
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws N. s$ |4 \/ H% n7 C- }
like never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of3 @3 Z7 H* y7 v) ~2 ]% e" |
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I8 e8 C; t' U6 k7 w( P( F& y
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as1 N8 x6 [* {) t3 q$ `4 p. x
though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse( V* W; o- |5 f( B' \' [# _. B- a) F( I
photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add
- x1 x9 e5 c" U. d) j @tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the. E+ p- s; N6 u
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express
9 H( ?, s/ l V( S; pis that now I will think differently about the images I make.3 B0 D! g/ ]1 w+ c. R
As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,, v9 p& r. _: I
compact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal

the high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital! U/ B$ h8 W& _3 N% J

* J7 |2 W# o" p9 j% y( larchitectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they

to work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional: h$ P$ s2 Y; z# {2 o3 d
range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality. d6 _1 u; n6 D/ o3 a7 N
