关于鸭子湖: Duck Lake or Goose Lake

那天路过鸭子湖，我说我们中国人叫 Hawrelak Park为鸭子湖。朋友问为什么。我开玩笑说，我们中国人不会发那个名字的音。
朋友说，你也发不好 Duck Lake 的音。
我想了想，是的。下次改叫 Goose Lake。

我的理解是：
再复杂的读音，你把他标好后，先一个音节一个音节的分开读，然后连起来读。
等到你觉得整个单词读得正确了，就重复读个100遍。这样应该能解决了。
如果一次不行，你就每天找个时间练。可以把那个音标贴在门上或放在你电脑前... 就像卖油翁那样。。。

如果duck的元音你不会发，相信我，你会发现你大多数单词的发音都不正确：因为这是英文单词中最为广泛出现的元音－－－所有元音a,e,i,o,u，在单词中非重读时，大都发这个音！

如何发？有两种方法供参考，如下：

１、在面部肌肉放松，口腔肌肉包括舌头也放松的情况下，要么用手使劲捏自己勃子的喉结处（女性请参考男性的相关位置），直到自己实在忍受不住了，而发出声音，要么，用自己的拳头对准胸部使劲捶打一下，很意外地发出来的声音，就象了。

２、或者，可以参考当地人发CANADA时的尾音－－－原音a，将其应用到所有单词中的同样发音中

3. 最后，谁给suvescape扔鸡蛋了？人家一片好心，却被误解。赶紧送鲜花补上吧。suvescape是对的，oo的音其实更难发，很多人尤其是同胞以为发对了，其实与正确的发音还相差甚远－－－正如咱以前那样。

I think they might be different. Duck is a stressed vowel.
Canada 的尾音－－－原音a is schwa.

Crisis: 这几个元音字母非重读的音是/ə/吧。
　　　当然，赖哥似乎是把它和/ʌ/等同的。我个人有点怀疑。
　　　
　　　我个人觉得duck还是应该读成/dʌk/,而不是/dək/，就像bus应该读成/bʌs/而不是/bəs/......
当然，很多人分别读成/dak/,/bas/，这样就失去了应有的“声音往下压，短促”的韵味了，给人一种“拖沓”的声音感觉。(中文双引号中内容只是我个人的发音体会的描述。)

能把oo发对很不容易呀。
我以前就分不清full和fool，像云吞有个帖子里说得那样。

duck的u发不准，是不是和Arbo的方言背景有关？不是你老家在那个区域......

I think my local dialect doesn't interfere with my English. The problem is the British accent.

Further, those who can speak more than one dialect are better able to produce sounds in a foreign language. I learned that from a linguistics book written by 桂灿昆.

Thanks! Just google it and got such one as follows,
I believe it's HAV-ri-lak. The name is Ukranian. It is often transliterated into English with a "v," not a "w." (William Hawrelak was mayor of Edmonton in the 1950s, 60s and early 70s.)
