Get something that will bring him North American culture. Things that may exist in Shanghai but it'll either be fake or incredibly overpriced when (and if) they find them.

My list: Mini hockey stick. NBA basketball or jersey with player signature. Lego toys. Star War (or any other famous video game) action figures. Celebrity posters. A small electric guitar. Comic books from Marvel. Playmobil, etc.
