Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall6 s" Q6 G$ R* u9 @2 }6 e) \
not do any of the following:
$ ^4 c$ z7 g7 A0 d1 S1 l: m, V+ M& U3 U(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor N9 L' R* Z3 Q: G6 o3 Q
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;4 D1 {# i" G# `3 D' I* T
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor3 c. X, ~) u2 C* e4 T0 M- J! P; q
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
& x5 w. K7 y; C" S" w(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,5 \, ]/ Q6 y8 E7 S8 a; W+ k
permit another person
- J4 Q# n2 t: D(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
8 ]/ Z: M4 h, t, ]+ D7 A0 t(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
1 x: j$ Y2 h( l1 c9 N+ T a1 [& bunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;- F; i5 N/ h* D9 B* M- q1 q& [
(d) give or lend a financial

to a person not entitled to have that financial. p8 T, E6 ]2 p7 y- t" C, A
responsibility card or copy.

without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of9 ^! _& E% x/ ]. s
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
5 c' D% r4 d ^$ d(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is5 ~9 u# R1 C. P" t6 ?! O
not an insured motor vehicle.7 }- T$ b; A; b4 y; A6 s6 _

+ k ]- _- S1 N9 Q W$ l6 Z2 JIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
( y8 l' d7 B R9 Q! cAct, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this6 K! G6 ` t2 I0 B( Y' H9 Q( Z
section.

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
* E5 _! U, V E9 zfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the" }& g! I6 h2 z
Insurance Act
6 B) H# m) @6 x! M! J* g6 Eby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy* a( e6 ^3 m7 g l6 O% q
outside Alberta.4 b4 z0 Q& ^1 Y4 [4 V
(4)
$ c. Z2 g8 L6 q) ?8 RA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
3 G6 R; \! ~ I0 O(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable," k: _( v+ B# V8 ?# ?, S
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
0 }) d c) ?* Iand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
