^& z! ?) s9 `) _$ c5 J! AEDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.
$ X0 s4 X1 E2 w8 l% y2 N" V1 h. a( A5 K- u
The item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.4 i9 }! v: U O6 m4 s% V
L+ J. Q' l& w9 q+ i. V5 K# LPolice evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.

- g& X w! U4 g1 z' B5 S$ J"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."
