Uppal also defends bill C-24, legislation that allows the government to strip citizenship from dual citizens convicted of terrorism or treason. He said when someone has been convicted and served their time of a charge as serious as terrorism it’s common sense to deport them.- i2 o ]- O- n+ u9 y
“If we can have their citizenship stripped, because they’re a dual citizen, than I would rather not have them in this country,” he said.9 ^( d$ n g3 r( n+ v( J7 S

Liberal candidate Amarjeet Sohi said the Conservative bill is discriminatory, treating Canadians with dual citizenship as unequal.- }$ z% T6 c! O- w& @
“It will not make us safe,” he said. “Every Canadian should be treated the same, you can’t have different punishments for the same crime.”0 w+ Z. z+ r2 t9 T
Sohi said he would prefer convicted terrorist stay within the reach of Canadian law.
