An Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.
, T* ]0 a1 E- A% x4 ]/ \A police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
( j1 |. ^# m& f- d( F7 Z  n& kPolice say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.
. e# I+ N1 i6 S9 Z4 K"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."
$ V1 m& d, F/ ~/ P. m9 lBeattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.

Beattie added that roadways can be destroyed by overweight vehicles since they cause cracks and potholes.
