Lindsay targets rural crime

CALGARY -- Alberta's new solicitor general hopes to have more boots walking the beat this year, intensifying the fight against crime in the province. # x0 n. y! N( H" T

Fred Lindsay told Sun Media yesterday plans are in the works to increase the number of RCMP officers and special constables patrolling Alberta roads this year. ) K% o, o9 k$ o( s! N. D' N$ A

Though any moves have to be approved in the province's budget, Lindsay said he's looking at boosting the ranks of the Mounties patrolling rural Alberta, to help curb a flood of urban organized crime groups, who are moving their operations to rural areas where there is less of a police presence.
