One hundred reasons to save for your child's post-secondary education

E- ~5 p4 K" x& H5 VEdmonton...Alberta students aged eight, 11 and 14 are now eligible to receive a $100 grant from the Alberta government in their Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) beginning January 1, 2007. To qualify, families must put in at least $100 into a student's RESP within one year prior to applying for the Alberta Centennial Education Savings Plan grant with an RESP provider. The $100 RESP grant is retroactive to 2005 and there is a six-year window to apply for the grant.! ]: F6 G) g% N) e& ^- \
' {! e4 G* N; K"This program gives Alberta parents an incentive to continue saving for their child's education and recognizes the Alberta government's commitment to promote the importance of post-secondary education, whether it's to pursue a college diploma, trade certificate or university degree," said Advanced Education and Technology Minister Doug Horner.

5 d2 T2 m4 b$ Y O6 L5 HThe Alberta Centennial Education Savings Plan was launched by the Alberta government in 2005. In addition to the $100 grant, there is a one-time $500 grant available to new Alberta parents with children born in 2005 or after.* v$ [* s# W0 E( |8 U0 ~
% F( |5 ?8 y( O3 m! OSavings programs like RESPs build an expectation in parents and their child for pursuing post-secondary studies. Research shows that 80 per cent of children with RESPs go on to a post-secondary education.
