EDMONTON — Southgate Centre today began a $108 million expansion to accommodate more than 30 new retailers and restaurants. c2 I E* R$ s7 \5 z" a
1 I% b1 M7 _1 R4 K8 j1 U. |2 [4 HThe two-year project, facing 111th Street, will add 126,000 square feet of leasable space on the ground floor — and two levels of parking above.& H/ N/ K4 R3 b+ X

“Part of the redevelopment will include enhanced site lighting and closed-circuit TV security systems monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Southgate general manager Paul Fairbridge.. d2 o2 o' Q7 I# H# v6 f

It also will include hotel-quality washrooms and private sitting rooms for nursing mothers.( K6 N% h+ ?$ v! s3 R

! G# D9 ]- Q! f+ f" k. k8 v$ HSouthgate, a 36-year-old mall located south and west of 51st Avenue and 111th Street, now has 130 stores and services. It is owned by Ivanhoe Cambridge, based in Montreal.
