Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:: R& k" J( ?- M5 g
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
( a# f1 S4 x6 f; ?• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
+ E1 t8 _ E" Q5 l+ I& ]• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
1 ^8 A; @0 `3 w• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.' Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
, _ {) Z5 A( h* ]3 S1 M. o• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.

• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation5 M9 ?5 z* ^ ?4 d" T; u$ s
• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.

• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.

• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.6 [1 M- g) y! g0 P+ O# I% M, n
• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
+ n$ g/ \7 i! b- k& L• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws. \% Z% H* h2 @5 G: M
• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.9 ~8 V; D. y- q2 }; W* [
• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.) z: w7 R" o4 v, A- F- d1 m* e

• Loading and unloading materials from trucks.

Job Requirements:
3 O1 O( k. U+ S) y: [• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume., ?- ~! h P% K2 {
• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume./ l4 y( H" l- z' X5 i
• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment. D% \; v5 n, I2 p) z
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.3 M% D6 [- S7 b
• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.

• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.; N' | k% E$ I' o4 y
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.* z( k' x* k* Z. S6 s+ d
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.3 o+ {9 x T( s- ]
