JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
  O! @3 G) @5 B3 S# @$ \4 t2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
year following their appointment.

9 T8 X! O4 `4 j4 h! q& C8 LDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

: r3 y9 T+ ^- j  Y. n5 \$ V8 q1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000

2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

+ B# g& b1 h( q! k+ ~/ j3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

7 o$ T/ P8 H3 @/ n6 c4 z4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.

' l' m8 W0 t( e! T- h) W& e5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
+ P! C( N) I8 O& Lreferenda.

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
parties.

' m4 x  Z* B# H$ y7 q( T3 s6 y" `, k7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
1 p' j& D$ x/ |( v7 P5 xreferendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
Bylaw 2000.

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
4 T) a3 j: `- I1 O; h  W! bfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
( N- |& O+ \3 K; wof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
3 k5 m% l2 X, H0 Y8 ?the course of an election/referendum.

9 D  K$ ]% P; ]6 K7 p0 ]7 t( n12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
  o+ X1 i( b$ U# p/ ?* ?& Aprocess is in place.

+ M- H# B* m. M. R+ n4 E13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
of activities and recommendations.

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
* F6 _+ ]7 C* i) @, mof campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  
Administration Committee.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
Union member.

2) Must have some experience in student elections.

. E& X  w6 }* Z6 u1 [: S. H5 @3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
with the Students' Union.

8 B5 q: i# m. p- O. L$ u% x4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

5) Excellent project management skills are required.

) h4 o! X8 k) [$ C5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  
staff, students and the general public.
