JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
3 V8 s. Z8 ?1 j) hthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
; U* Q4 d' E2 d+ @5 H4 f! K2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
2 `5 s9 v7 z. r+ T+ d& Y+ A: ~Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
8 M! @% b, H; Z5 I3 kStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  ; r8 ?/ V: z& C5 g$ Q; j
year following their appointment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

7 ?: R) s  Y9 {% M1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000
- c  ^4 ?/ b' m/ Y- F: b3 d: ?' b/ J1 x5 x$ \: Y
2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.' G5 d" I% _: s4 L- k$ E" ~- Q

6 V' d# e0 }8 [! R) q3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.% m8 P$ r# |' `9 R) p. ^, z( x

9 o6 @2 p7 E# X1 F4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  8 R7 F( A9 i$ x5 k/ F9 s( m
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
3 r# _% D) @$ z, w/ m* yacross campus, and advertising the poll locations.
9 ~% M1 k/ I, R8 K  T8 @! l7 G& d& {* L: s
5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
9 z) C4 H, W5 r& z9 u" nreferenda.2 \5 ]7 @; L- Q) h: t$ h  o

4 q/ {+ v) V+ m) R( G3 w6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
+ B1 k0 i5 i5 q" A# q6 Cparties.

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
! J  L6 y9 P, v3 n" breferendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
8 o) J: b* S2 l9 oBylaw 2000.4 J) H) a3 v) _5 {! M

9 ^! i# s( [2 ^& o5 c10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  ! {& g* D0 N+ h8 A6 W% b, c
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  - @( n4 e& q% p7 ^) w9 o
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  2 N; s2 Y' L9 X9 ~0 O( _0 i! c
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
$ z* y2 b, m. ithe course of an election/referendum.- E  |" J  t" _4 E" v

2 m! O$ T# j2 t  z5 w* U  H" }12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
# b' Q0 ]) J3 d. Gprocess is in place.8 `% T+ x6 |5 h0 \0 Y# ~

4 l0 P2 C" i. C- m; }4 l  c13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  " }6 [- \7 U- b2 Y% M+ `7 h
of activities and recommendations.& J9 P# n' S* N/ ?4 t9 x

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
6 E/ K# w( o8 z% E8 M# S8 c! u8 Sof campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council    k7 p- E. R! J6 L( r
Administration Committee.

QUALIFICATIONS:
3 O0 n0 I5 d+ V3 G: }( \5 B7 w7 U
1 L) O+ `) y8 D0 ]8 j" W1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
/ F1 g7 n7 v7 b! M: B5 Tfor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
( Q, _7 ]: r9 i) M/ U  z+ y$ T0 |Union member.
7 L/ T: W+ X2 D, i% {0 B+ c7 n
! Y) F- H5 a. p- T- P6 ~- A- ]2) Must have some experience in student elections.
1 [5 C* U( }6 L& \5 r& v9 z* `- g9 @7 q
3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
2 z7 g8 ^' R& ~any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
7 L) O6 p& k9 d2 Pwith the Students' Union.

& O. b3 J4 }2 ?' X* _4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.
) d5 ^. g: ~  ~: R- T5 T# z  y8 x& ], C5 Z/ A; r5 p- _# I
5) Excellent project management skills are required.
* }6 O! J9 D  Y1 W& c/ S3 @7 z/ r  b* q: g
5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  
8 `+ Y* `0 C5 f% l: a' E  Lstaff, students and the general public.1 y6 m+ W0 V1 }9 D, O4 ]3 |
