/ o. ^) }+ }0 ~% M% ]0 mJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
; T" e9 c9 E4 Ithe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw    B3 i* R+ k' M- y
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  ! L( h7 N5 o( {' n( \9 F
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
0 l9 ]8 o) ~/ A: O/ Z4 w/ KStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  + ]5 f1 T# X! x) G( t6 q
year following their appointment.; `) \0 L. T0 ^! W. l3 d3 N$ b

9 L. g: ~/ a( F  [" h9 M: L! o! ADUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

0 p  m" l; P0 p  X1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 20002 }. B8 k, Q. w
$ F# v) M5 Q1 n1 D
2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.
: _4 Z+ v1 z4 p2 d5 W) b/ O4 i0 Y2 ?3 v0 f( K
3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.% I+ {+ P/ O, r! S/ J
( T  m- E8 u. e2 k( v
4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
$ M/ e# B3 o  I& @, |adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  % s* \9 t2 F! j) \7 E; m. j- _
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.
, l1 B+ [; M3 e( ^9 Z& L+ h6 A& ]( h) L
5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
  j/ H+ x; [' a$ ?* xparties.+ ^. N9 J, I7 D/ \- L

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/ 3 [. \' x- p( X" c( o
referendum.: S/ H! [" v/ E, |

3 @1 P; v  x- U To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
6 z. ]$ h% [8 s4 oBylaw 2000.

* J6 }! K5 ^* N6 i10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
* T- Q& i2 f1 a) o& Xminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
$ b! ]! G1 m' L. k1 B8 efrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  4 @7 ]0 M/ n+ M( Z
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.1 x) q% a7 ]2 ~8 k! L5 h

11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
3 y# J1 ^' n8 `5 }8 l, Sthe course of an election/referendum., C$ L% j% c" Q  u  Q$ A

12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  ) X# C3 y$ y# f; h3 @

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
8 _3 R/ m# o' zof activities and recommendations.

QUALIFICATIONS:, {- g5 W7 B- |- t  S9 q; X

1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  & @/ f$ x( J- j0 C
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  1 C& z; z! i: _; C
Union member.
7 @7 [1 m( `7 v% g- y( K" Y9 v* `7 x& R7 [
2) Must have some experience in student elections.
& h, b! A7 _4 u6 f' C- r7 k& G6 o! l% `  {- `8 t- F
3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  ! b- q6 K) J# v# N, K3 O8 r
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.' ~4 _0 q' o, K- u
