Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.3 ~, n: a9 @+ \' H

•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.% u0 s# O0 v+ y; n7 Z# O0 |# D
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.8 X0 g% v) e. `
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
' Y9 M' y$ Q  p* M•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather - s5 G5 V* Y# N5 O* s
and traffic conditions.
/ T* h: j1 l, a4 {) B•        Adhere to schedules.
9 S/ S+ R; V9 @4 E* x•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.6 A) P$ N8 B5 b+ r
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
) b, i3 `4 ?: c) n/ V$ W•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.) L5 [* I% w/ r3 u8 x$ k" q
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability + j' |: Y% X9 G% i8 I/ j: m
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
7 V+ E8 [# O- }2 ^8 S# ~9 `of the day.
# e+ w. r- W% j/ b/ N4 l•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
& W( o- y; d5 r) V; u•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
% [) w* I* q' x; }•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
* p0 g+ E: [, |$ q; {$ D9 z7 R•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
$ o- v% R4 ~. |showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
. Y) |4 [7 D& b+ S+ X•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill 6 e1 h1 v; m3 G# I4 N! e7 K
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
* R% g# i/ _9 i# w•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
. V# u. J* @! ]. H2 L/ B7 ]1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly, F/ R' H2 P  g
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

1 J4 z2 k$ f1 t  uSALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004 4 V- M" E$ E' k  u% U
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly5 _* @' p1 Q3 f, s  S
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
3 \% W7 X( _+ t+ J8 V$ @The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.2 w5 X* ~$ ^9 D7 L$ }  Q
