; W! E8 B* X# TEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
; H" V9 _9 B0 e, I# D- f' ^' D• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
+ c9 O6 T7 P3 K9 B+ _" c• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
5 n* f0 I d( V: v$ v# `1 {* u" ~• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
% y. h$ v: u) E, x2 b• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

• Adhere to schedules.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:! k6 h I4 c% q3 [+ b8 S# t4 n5 f1 T
• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset./ p; M! n" X. H- u6 |. m# A
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability : l2 D, D) F6 {
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger : C$ j. [/ s' s# |# Y

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).* L) r) K1 B! l: g' g1 H3 i0 Q
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
' {, X$ i/ Z, n' H• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.) D$ I4 { h5 h/ c \' x2 V
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
6 F0 h$ O% J6 j, V7 Hshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 3 L. @+ F9 w- q
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill 1 @: G \' e# O, | P1 k
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).8 V2 \0 W+ o, ]7 y% X# }
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.$ r4 T+ y* c- V: P1 e( |5 ~$ l
• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1 n- R* r5 G% S+ g2 M+ ~1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly8 P1 \3 k; E& Z. n: j
Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE: 401, Salary Grade: 004 0 g: M6 ]6 ~7 [- w
Training Rate: $16.56 Hourly/ y% `; I% b, Z: q
Post Training Rate: $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
