+ d' ^8 n4 V0 u; d+ J, o' I( qEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
3 F# X3 a) P6 M# C8 |5 S•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
) z+ k! O2 A6 I! y•        Adhere to schedules.
1 j3 c! j1 @. B0 D2 h$ ^•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

) U; G; `% }3 C% g% ^JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
% o7 z$ t0 y) Z5 o8 wto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
1 f# g. y" {" j•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
# G! g. g" n) j1 ?8 lshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
2 U4 x$ a" ~1 i7 r2 U0 c% [•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
+ m8 h, M$ e7 }: m0 |4 T•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
" f6 e: l0 x( o. x2 q) T•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
' n  W6 C( O/ K  H0 U$ mVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
6 ^2 b/ i* i9 v3 Q& h- N6 b1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
) ^; R$ v* q5 B- f+ m" p6 hThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly
