Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.$ x% P2 q0 o( a0 R+ ]7 P0 z/ c9 _" x

. s2 k$ X5 u- `1 A- g• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.. D. o: H6 P2 e
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.7 q& v, V: a7 k8 K
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.1 k, [, t5 J( v$ k5 m
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

• Adhere to schedules.

/ I# y+ W# k' J• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.2 ~: ^( r+ M6 P" A
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability 6 O% G$ @, o- N8 s$ x# @2 n' w
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger 0 {0 Q& B6 h' N8 M8 f% p
of the day.; ^, U7 ?. Z. E' E1 Y! Y0 R5 H
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).- a3 M$ {2 J' k$ f: ^
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
4 p3 C9 o3 @ G# j2 j+ y• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.

showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 1 H5 d2 B% P2 c* {
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill & Q, D( S6 H8 p
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.! z( F" v4 o* V5 q

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
3 A; x6 _, \7 W1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly1 @6 N8 ^3 K$ K! r- A+ x* t' d
Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE: 401, Salary Grade: 004
