6 l* S' P+ E+ y; eEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
3 I) h$ ]7 }* a1 s•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
9 R' S: o( w3 a" T* k- [•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

$ p1 w: Q  x4 f/ j! v•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

•        Provide excellent customer service.

( e* K5 G' ?/ V. B$ i9 b3 q4 eJOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
1 a5 y9 Q' a" v•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.

4 u6 c( r8 s% {" K( q2 q# |  \, dvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

3 O. T8 g2 S- Y5 HHOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
! H& E( n/ [/ Y1 rTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
