. h: s' i/ H( KEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.4 k) u0 ]9 \3 [9 I3 [$ c. N

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.; L$ O1 D7 ~9 k! \. {: P* y
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
/ C2 @; ~- |! E5 A4 b• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.

and traffic conditions.

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. 4 B: z+ a1 @4 s8 C& H. R. ]
• Ensure the safety of all passengers.

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
* i' K2 V, W7 f1 H! D• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability 4 P* j- Z" {, O
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger R2 z- r T7 [# W1 u

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
2 T0 A# g* o1 X* @# s( d6 T• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.

• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
0 Y+ u3 J4 }4 m4 t5 t F- F- I) S2 ishowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. R8 }) {. l" X# U# o9 u% q3 {
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill ( K# f0 a# y: M# X: U) ?7 f& e, R5 C
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).! M4 Q7 }7 q0 d' X6 Q! r! p" _2 b8 M
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.4 z( U. Z0 w& o, j: f9 }- Z
• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.2 s( P5 @/ F9 Y/ @9 {

HOURS OF WORK:
4 E' K* j$ J, qVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week . v9 [( x+ s6 T& }" R5 z* I
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
) D$ P8 g0 v, J5 c1 wThereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE: 401, Salary Grade: 004 0 {- t; e* l% p* B$ q$ e ^& U
Training Rate: $16.56 Hourly' | m/ v# \2 G$ J1 v2 r
Post Training Rate: $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly) ^8 A# ?1 j! S, ], A
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton./ o0 t" ^$ h2 j" W; V( o& q b
