Other costs of leaving have also increased and the university

6 C) E# S5 Q4 q" K& [the fact that the university housing has no more space for newcomers / E/ \/ M) ] a6 N8 n' m
and most of the newly admitted students who applied for housing were
# [ W# z4 p4 V* o! u* s# }/ casked to look for a residence on open market.- M4 o' l, d# a" d8 p6 D- W' L5 w7 M* k
$ ~9 F" T7 ~4 E: I& ]5 F# JWhile the average cost of living for a typical graduate student has
5 N: B3 N) O$ e- mincreased by something more than 70% percent we are getting paid
. v3 X! A6 k- V7 P3 aexactly for the same amount of money that we were offered in our 3 H" z: w" l; n. N; U
admission letter (18000 CAD + 1500 CAD for international students
2 `* j* _- h) H5 `' o, M=19500CAD. What I get is something around 1000CAD/month!!! after - k3 d! x; d0 S& M8 V/ e
tuition fee and taxes). To make the argument easy to understand just
( \$ L, ?/ ~, E! m* nimagine that a new student gets the same amount of money that I am
$ j7 T' W, k0 W9 p) d) i; M/ T. Ogetting now and I was getting 3 years ago but he or she (like all of # F7 A! g# d& {; i5 y
us) has to pay twice as much as I was paying for housing when I was ' L9 {/ y, q$ a/ m0 I, ?
admitted and has to incur at least 70% more in average living costs.0 s; R5 ~- b0 u6 c( b
7 y7 K; ]& G) r5 E8 I* OAlso have in mind that Alberta is a rich province and University of & l9 e- H4 l, U7 o+ ^+ T4 m% l
Alberta has a remarkable record in absorbing various money and grants 1 m6 s! P/ u1 V: ?9 N G
from different governmental and non governmental sources and graduate
7 m1 a3 c1 z3 u3 Q! Wstudents are the main pillars of research work at the university.

My objective in bringing all abovementioned points in your attention
' s z5 P5 O& c$ ?: S) U& _8 mis to question the adequacy of financial aid for graduate and ! {4 a" g; }0 H7 B
especially international students. Isn抰 it time for the GSA to take
# {8 P# e" d- W+ k' s9 Y6 E 9 q' R2 @" F; }$ E& _
initiative in raising the issue of increasing financial aid for
2 n! m1 l- `( U8 u4 V: B% [graduate students so that the can afford this increase in costs?
