600CAD/month plus utilities right now, some thing around 700CAD/month.6 N# C& w+ K. Z# M

Other costs of leaving have also increased and the university ; U) A9 l4 v1 W1 P2 m8 |: W: b
increases the tuition fee by few percent every year and international $ D0 Y2 X1 ~. d$ g8 g* h
differential fee was increased by almost 20% last year. Add to this,

and most of the newly admitted students who applied for housing were
! U* A6 l* e# }+ X; @' c- Iasked to look for a residence on open market.1 U4 v, b2 W7 X) X; r/ K- i

While the average cost of living for a typical graduate student has + S! S2 n# `, H' F
increased by something more than 70% percent we are getting paid
& s& R7 X# y" oexactly for the same amount of money that we were offered in our 1 r" ^8 k& j2 v% Z
admission letter (18000 CAD + 1500 CAD for international students
2 y$ i+ M% b" S# v=19500CAD. What I get is something around 1000CAD/month!!! after , o" x7 A, ~/ _7 Y/ D- G
tuition fee and taxes). To make the argument easy to understand just 9 v R4 G& E- K# W
imagine that a new student gets the same amount of money that I am ! w7 A9 g* c" Z' ?2 |8 o! F( e
getting now and I was getting 3 years ago but he or she (like all of # f* ^# B f1 U8 |6 G4 H- S3 t
us) has to pay twice as much as I was paying for housing when I was
' J8 k% f0 q5 f! Iadmitted and has to incur at least 70% more in average living costs.

from different governmental and non governmental sources and graduate " [7 n' M/ t7 V* x% o$ P8 T
students are the main pillars of research work at the university.

My objective in bringing all abovementioned points in your attention
~$ `% z& T& ~! e8 W5 P; Uis to question the adequacy of financial aid for graduate and
5 \1 n+ V3 d3 j" L" t3 Sespecially international students. Isn抰 it time for the GSA to take
( [! A* }' }8 P) h& {& c 1 G0 E4 ]$ T5 U; T* `
initiative in raising the issue of increasing financial aid for 8 l+ B, n; ?$ a1 T* \: w
graduate students so that the can afford this increase in costs?
