The VERTO Project
/ c: e1 e3 N+ t. JThe YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
{8 B; h3 A* t4 ^; W ~1 }4 pbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based/ v) b9 \7 s k7 r g5 D; ~
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day9 L' l5 W' u5 T
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that8 e4 ^) }6 A: K
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.' g7 p$ c% h5 h# p8 j: V
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our2 a9 ?/ B8 ~$ u% n. L
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
+ f3 k R! M4 ~0 w- qconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
7 H1 H0 j/ I$ n, C9 O# Y( ?: L3 \VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
1 `/ c1 d& h" S0 h+ `* snecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve/ f( _$ u3 s0 W
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
* u% V. T! e; a" Eparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment. ?% l0 Y4 z, }2 ]: [: R$ e) ]. b
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
( n% q/ j1 R! f- k: o! y h5 f8 a; jexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and" V, S% t z5 _
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
6 R2 @: q/ t9 ~& @1 v6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.8 U2 h( l8 P# u
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central' B- `, t, a' s! {; i6 E
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.8 ~' T8 i) b( ?3 \ i- ^
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)0 T* `* u* y. H: ]9 u8 B1 B
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
, p9 L* J3 g, Acommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
$ n3 A. f9 ~3 y Cwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
0 E' }" l+ H% W5 A• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
7 s# W. C2 r* l' E( c7 u( ~being realistic to each youth participant4 W7 M2 j$ v0 L Z
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the, x( w: o. S% i( m8 [$ i+ S7 U
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to( L" \, D% d2 M! }. t: `+ b4 O
each participant
* ~; O1 C# h A; H" G7 E: n- ]0 M9 m5 ?• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
& h7 S2 [: a+ d1 Hcover letters and resumes etc.
& ~8 l3 Y! ?5 D: Y% P# z• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work$ X9 C& c4 _) B
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
) s8 N" ]: Y/ c5 z7 nplacements1 Q$ z$ u K, p, X( f9 W! {
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating3 O- Y- |* y% m: }% P8 c4 G
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
! R- L2 O% I0 @$ d _5 W9 b• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach) k& }1 g* m- G4 c/ h* W9 W
is being fulfilled for each youth2 |# `! L- M2 @, r9 r
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are+ ~0 Y% H5 ]' J$ h: W
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

Experience Required: Employment Developer( x( @9 m/ q3 r5 k6 b3 b
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
: F" j7 S: q4 d9 R6 p! M! t1 d A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

 Strong skills in building relationships with industry and youth

# ], P/ E% f3 h Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
