The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will8 F! m" Z& }5 P. G' T2 N$ `* i' `
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
9 R$ e, _% ~6 B# z: @, q5 pemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
/ X* n' J1 d1 U; j- @. Hprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
! |& O& {( L1 n: Hstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
( o2 ]3 b, w# Q `YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our% B# ^( G6 e+ c ^
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
$ ~# Y7 c. B; K# Tconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the2 f# }$ R# m, n J* D) R/ T/ s
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills7 r1 {# x9 J4 b' w; e* ~% B' `
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
9 y# F- D) X' E( p9 t4 Y& \youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
0 J9 D& Z" W% v, o/ l( nparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
. J1 V( ~4 a, z* \6 R' wdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
* \- `' d1 u; Z1 b8 L# `exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and" x" m1 E; }0 A' u, _
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
z% f' j H8 ~6 s5 X7 ^6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.% K9 p/ x+ q; W @
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central# B7 i0 T6 E% n, C; B9 I
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
- N0 {* I8 Y0 K k+ ~. g• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
& m- m# p3 p7 a! D( {" wcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
" q s9 O5 D( ~/ V4 h2 uwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities8 \. k, R$ X, @! M
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
+ y6 y) z; v+ m( t' O( A/ N' s( Pbeing realistic to each youth participant& |9 z, i9 D1 @
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
0 y* S5 J: b5 d, d& _youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
% F* p) Y3 M; @% Heach participant" j X% a& ]% a$ I
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of/ M+ P" t* Z ]" P, c
cover letters and resumes etc.0 }8 a$ X+ x3 P8 f+ Q! k7 D
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
, G) S* B, @+ rexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
! z- W" F, e" F; _7 ~* cplacements; g: X; `) D {7 ]8 x
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
) Z" v! q" [" o" f1 hthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
& x f2 R( s9 N V( h• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
% U* V7 J; j8 ~% {; f( @- ~8 b5 h. r7 Sis being fulfilled for each youth) y1 l* A7 x$ b( \5 f2 ?; N
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
$ g( R: j+ Y% B R: w. Lrelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

- S. r0 r) }5 n* @4 P3 u Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted* j5 h; I k) L- T5 ?" x9 ]8 r2 ]2 w5 m
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.; k$ z* K v. g

 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth

 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
