The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
5 n8 z3 q3 A4 s7 o7 c1 Memployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
3 q; m7 E9 e$ v6 K3 }' n. U! P+ Cmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
2 p4 x+ {' ^& iconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
8 @1 s0 \( k% d7 W$ bVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
2 i4 M4 @6 Y3 wnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
0 D: n( I+ e0 b+ i& z! i. f1 Cyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
3 U, J' U4 o: n: N* |+ \wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
5 s  A  _. A7 I5 L6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
extension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
" F, O  v# j4 [! k/ Xcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
/ @% ~# L1 x( N5 q3 kwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
being realistic to each youth participant
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
% ?; |# Y% f/ D9 h2 p. m  q- Yyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
each participant
+ a- E! L; \& \5 ^• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
cover letters and resumes etc.
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
' M# S) E/ J( s3 d, `placements
! r6 d* G; O& Y# U! }• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
. k2 o; m, a% t' {( l: His being fulfilled for each youth
+ E* G/ I7 G9 V: C. S• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
; d, @1 m; ?4 |6 R& @2 Zrelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

Experience Required: Employment Developer
. b7 Z, d3 h# W# l' X- d Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
