 The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
 1 x% n2 Y% S% D' D- B) xbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
 3 k5 u5 @' i' w9 e" O9 ^employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
 7 k0 |. g  ?3 I1 _. \program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that% c% N, y2 {& r, n4 O4 n3 o  _3 c: }
 stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.# ^( p- A; s; n# D) [
 YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our% R3 r# ^; M6 X1 R5 b
 mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
 0 v; ^$ f% |/ q8 _0 uconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the& Y$ H1 \  ]% }' K) b/ ~
 VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
 # w# F" M8 X3 rnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve1 R" l- a* d, X4 j, c& L+ `
 youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose+ W1 n9 K+ Z9 ]
 participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment, u6 A6 p4 L- w  M
 development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
 - I) ~2 Y, ?) @, e0 f4 Lexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and* h5 U; D* K+ l; J
 wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
 ! N. U8 L, i/ g* M) u/ n, _0 I6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
 0 m- X  I# B' f9 h1 @4 UThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
 / U, _( Z8 t  z9 d% _7 Z5 F( MYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
 # ~4 e3 k& E: K. B5 lThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of/ m# Q6 p: N" W1 g! m& m

 • Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
 * _8 l; l) B& g) Ccommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are. g% g" t' r( y. n* Q
 willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
 4 m" \& ?. S) F• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
 7 Y1 V: Z; @" \! xbeing realistic to each youth participant
 $ V" j9 E. ^. o' g" ~8 @, Z• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
 ) E! l3 t7 R; E, Y7 ]2 z8 w; e5 D& ^. Pyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
 ; R9 I8 j' `: X$ ^% k* beach participant8 g- [$ f: {: {& l- i- H% v
 • Assist youth with employment development including the development of
 ) L' y' }5 u* Tcover letters and resumes etc.
 3 N6 b4 e0 t6 T/ U! p, h• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
 & {( l4 U: `/ o5 I6 T* |* j- f' wexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
 4 ]* s0 M- Z$ T& ]# nplacements2 r$ J* Y+ m# _$ [6 x, o, c3 G
 • Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
 1 ]/ }: L8 T# [* x# `2 A7 s+ ~the process, and supporting the youth where needed7 T( i/ @% T2 Y! _# j+ p7 L
 • Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
 K. A- L- \) d5 j0 c  iis being fulfilled for each youth- ~) U; m$ s8 n+ t' b
 • Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
 ) y$ O. ]0 a6 m& H% l% Z: Xrelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

 Experience Required: Employment Developer
 7 I, s/ P6 L$ _/ n* i: X* O$ G. y8 { Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
 9 f% p! u8 U" f3 q: ]% w! y2 u4 ^ A minimum of three years relevant experience is required./ _8 u3 y1 @' e# u
