0 T) x* P; }. s& {bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based" t% A3 K- u! t' m: X
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
/ n/ a8 M' v# C z6 E( Bprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that1 {) `6 G1 s9 U5 R3 k* h' U) a; Q/ K
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
: j; n9 K: `4 b# k2 {! |$ VYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
" @7 q* Z, J$ z9 O3 amission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve! A/ F5 T6 i% s! L9 r+ a
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the$ D+ Y, Q1 q! D: S3 R5 P
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills, F$ U4 Z) Z7 y/ v+ |
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
1 h+ u. _& R$ P$ lyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose, I! U, w+ Y9 q$ |/ z
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
) |$ G/ b0 _6 \" z. }development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and$ W, `. k& F) q+ k
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and" l0 ?, v0 r7 L8 E3 I3 Z" u
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a, Z- p; a/ @" V {
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed." b8 e7 P5 z( Q2 O2 f# s
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
( ]; M+ z2 ]; i2 e1 aYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.! }" Z2 B# b L }& y: o; s
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)

7 H+ H1 n1 W! S' F* @9 Qcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
1 G2 i* ^" D9 Z* y6 \willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities t4 m" F% R+ H9 j3 _7 v
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as, z: n7 n/ [2 P9 I3 q6 i
being realistic to each youth participant m$ j. v2 A. m2 L2 c" c
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the5 @9 ~1 | r: t" B9 @$ Q7 @. x3 ]
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to6 ^# E4 k4 _/ O0 y8 E( I" P
each participant
I' r9 ?6 i. }• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
9 |& P) Y5 ^4 ?2 bcover letters and resumes etc.& K# F7 G1 a# e
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
" G0 ^7 V, O5 `experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
7 y; s* u' X& W7 Mplacements/ p/ [* O/ x! I, L
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
1 t, f! J \! s$ P( H6 Uthe process, and supporting the youth where needed3 n% T' X$ n5 ^8 I8 }3 ^1 k, U8 |
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach. N" H1 [+ B. e0 J9 |
is being fulfilled for each youth+ {" o+ ]; X3 G7 I; W
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are/ ] N! F3 K: t# U/ P# j
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

2 s% ?$ U( s- a, J Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted( \5 F: T0 z9 j9 N' t/ w
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required." A2 Y; w% o- d( j

 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth

 Strong leadership and active listening skills
