The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
8 I6 d7 c& i( D3 u5 H' S. lbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
8 a, y& V3 Y1 ]3 Y% C/ E  wemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
, ~4 U5 ?5 z# k2 _program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
% o/ _7 c; Z; k$ K% C9 g! QYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
- R+ u$ h% \2 `conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
- V* k) q3 I4 Y! y1 [7 MVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
6 E+ `, W# Q5 P8 W$ Inecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
/ s; V7 u! `# W7 k0 L  ], cyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
! k3 x) y" ~0 }$ [; Y; C8 ?: h9 Owellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
5 {. m  k0 ?- |6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
9 H" m: r. _! Z' O. V: uYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
4 v; [* q+ `5 [8 J9 N! Z2 sThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
1 r* o1 g0 Z2 M7 d6 R4 g) c  Aextension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

& w3 A, g0 k. c  H• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
* X0 h) e1 A: n5 ncommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
( ~* k' ]! A# o6 F- `8 s7 \willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
" S. r, ?6 @; c+ {. u0 x• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
being realistic to each youth participant
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
8 p1 H8 h& P% v2 k+ E3 p) r+ Cyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
each participant
5 V5 N4 h" z3 G8 [7 a• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
% q( N# `" b! X+ @: f1 pcover letters and resumes etc.
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
% e/ Q6 R. w' ^' Fplacements
+ _; P: p7 D% v' `• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
( T. k8 b+ X. L% k$ X8 Dthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
$ n+ }6 E7 p0 E, c9 S' g$ G- N- _is being fulfilled for each youth
! D, m0 a8 P; d8 i0 s- {" b; l• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project
9 A" }9 X6 P- a- n• Other tasks as they arise within the position
Experience Required: Employment Developer
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
3 X. ]2 q% [& H A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
 Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed
2 e6 i$ z, F; q* Q7 a$ Pto success.
 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
 Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organizational and
time management.
- `% q! g$ F9 a! {2 J( A3 v Strong connections with industry, or the ability to make those connections
quickly
' ]1 B, ^) f, j! w3 Q) T8 X+ M Strong skills in building relationships with industry and youth
3 z6 r. J+ {6 `9 t3 I$ E Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth
$ N) }# f/ J2 {  Q3 j! e0 nat risk as it pertains to employment
 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
