The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

5 i* d% O6 Q: f; A0 k7 P
1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)$ {: U; H* U# _4 b
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
) u; v7 y2 }$ v• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
2 `3 n( y" \. |4 b* T9 m! D• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored0 Q* W2 o. Z1 K9 C
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
# {, {) p1 [3 B2 v• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.1 }( Z, m9 ?8 X7 m: V: G$ k9 C
' f0 P$ V% K& }' t: i2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)3 d2 ^% \% X6 Y) U- v$ Q9 g+ J3 Q
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s k. {- X1 t- ^

Candidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

: U0 z! q/ [3 [( XThis is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
