/ ~3 c! X5 r1 N/ zThe Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

Responsibilities include:

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
2 o' ?$ x) D# i! k& I2 z• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
  c! N3 O* g+ A! Y& B9 @• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
9 \2 ]. Y8 r2 J( x• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

2 @& `4 p1 [7 ^3 X5 j+ B4 B• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

0 B& S8 d* S- M6 XCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
