The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

( f+ e+ G- J$ g' K# x1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
/ V3 P" a, a# n* ]5 O! _• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department3 _9 i$ o9 ~7 e! M0 O
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals7 R3 d: t( j5 C, y* c) Q7 p/ c
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
& d9 _) @1 e% P W2 ^8 C' A5 y• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
. X# G! v3 D6 i- o$ G- P- A• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.* q, B4 K2 U: R" \

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
/ g4 F, k7 V) h5 Z/ ]• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s 4 r7 }! s6 j6 K' b

Candidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.0 E6 U q B! j5 G2 m& ]6 l
