H$ \9 N4 V0 b( h3 q. `As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. ) R  C) a3 g" G1 b

) q: b5 [* U! @7 p# ^0 ^Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:: y: ?! X  _. N7 l9 {
•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment) C8 u0 z7 {' O+ X* r8 h& D1 I( Q4 F
•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements2 @, j+ R6 ?9 C: r! u
•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module2 F- A. S8 }! o& e5 q8 ?
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
% Z  }% [0 g3 L7 m: t, `* M* I2 A•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers

•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline# H" W: J5 g4 V. T$ }7 i9 ]4 r
•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
- L7 L: b5 L  ]  c1 @; z•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
' Y: V2 g& q+ V4 e/ c5 g! y  n) p$ z•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems3 i; C5 A4 y) U# Z) }: f
•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets1 w1 p( c7 G. P" w& ?- b7 z7 A. ]
•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies1 x0 e$ W- m5 ?7 T
•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
