$ U+ r6 K( s, x0 U; c0 K* Z: R: sAs part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. ) D+ }2 [. U* K; @* H& B8 y
0 j0 N4 [% G& P( ]3 a
Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:8 ]8 K, j/ x& g7 ?5 S
•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment! t3 {0 `; R- N* n) _( h. r/ S
•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
* e) i6 y" O4 S5 m•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
5 b7 ?: [- l! ^9 m5 @& I- L•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's! s) Z( q8 M4 Z# E8 l
•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers * h* P, `9 c# J
Job Requirements:  
' D/ w  K  l. s1 w* X•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
! |; d! Y- A7 S0 f•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset+ H7 |6 u8 _. {$ s( v$ u
•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
2 |3 g& L1 v2 w4 N•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems0 j! }1 J- l0 o- f6 q. v
•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
& B# a5 |8 |; A3 z•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
/ u/ d' W, m7 l7 g; r' v3 u•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST* j% m/ n  I3 s3 K
•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills
6 t1 v& O5 _/ j; ?Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

Salary:  $27.00 hourly
