As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience.
) p1 B5 Z3 L) A; [8 a7 G; a% b! x
6 H; \6 f% M; J) H; X& d' o" QReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:
: I+ z, B  H; p•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
, h' ^" \9 _) ~2 ]4 U8 m. O# u•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
4 r) ?; @1 T1 R$ M' g: B•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module9 z; A8 G% O+ D/ Z) P
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
$ h* ]6 r9 `0 ^8 }•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers ; |3 r  J3 Z+ ]) B5 p9 h
Job Requirements:  
# h3 ~0 g+ S" j) X8 P) U! h•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline5 o" o+ _+ b. `' U9 B% r4 u5 R. j+ O9 J
•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
* r5 @# c6 B! ~3 d•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience% |9 v9 Z5 B. R& E2 W9 B
•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
, `% g% ^/ `- M8 J5 ]5 @•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
5 s7 r! h1 E$ Q, u•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies  `- @+ B. ]1 r7 d. Q- z; }  I
•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
4 d: L$ r9 e) m, Z) C/ y% b5 O•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills# h& _( C+ k4 K2 h( ]
Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
! c5 c6 v* o4 B. k  SHours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.2 a( u0 u3 `9 {# \( _
Salary:  $27.00 hourly+ U2 [4 P+ [2 f+ u% z9 c" U
