As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. & r( q% c/ B. @8 r& D, d
- M7 m+ m, M+ v3 Y* x
Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:
, D- {: ~) j& @ x• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment7 ~& u" p$ G! n D$ O
• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
& I+ g4 H, t# F% @; j• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module; }* v' p) Q# b' |$ S |
• Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's0 P" H; m9 z* W. Q' \* _% }
• Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers
$ f7 _. U L6 A! k6 P2 C! M0 _Job Requirements: + W% Q4 r& Q6 N% q+ y
• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline' t' C$ B# h2 P
• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset8 M+ W: H9 v5 a6 W
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience- b& G" t5 h6 J4 s& F4 L) a; | A
• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems* P6 q2 E5 i+ C
• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
5 b1 u+ m+ q+ Y• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies9 q M% D9 d8 |, Y) }
• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST1 H# D. k- T% X9 T. b4 r
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ^. E+ C: g& T8 s: J* j7 Q8 P
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. 7 P0 W& C; o/ j- X) ^, w
Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.
