As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. . I* b1 m0 v0 B$ q" G. D
" D. |" x% G% c8 u9 i- NReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:6 K1 v, s6 k* y% n% s
• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment, R; A2 I) v+ R H! N! @
• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
" W4 b- K. Y ] R4 y• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module1 @; O- o( X' ~2 _0 u4 F# X) j4 L
• Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
% t. {; _" v! G5 [: j4 R9 X• Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers
8 g# ]' W+ s/ GJob Requirements: 9 Q; q5 Z+ V$ T0 `( S, F# T
• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline' W; ~7 V; B( [ \; b. g% m7 v
• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
, K! @1 ^( C1 q- h• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience- k t6 U9 W/ ^; K+ ^' O
• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems! D# [& [8 `. P! L3 B% F2 U
• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets0 H1 @/ E% e) C* Q8 B: v
• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
) {- r P, P2 u) z8 m9 j• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST) A7 G c& E' t* p
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
/ R; R% m. `$ J0 u# x( N6 \Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
