There are no changes in the way Albertans register for publicly-funded health care. However, as announced in the 2008 budget, health premiums have been eliminated as of January 1, 2009. 4 H4 V1 w' w1 l5 w

9 A/ c% N" A- `Payment and collection of health care premiums owed prior to January 1, 2009 will continue under these guidelines:

" a4 n, F" z! l2 T# Z' ` 1. All Albertans are responsible to pay premiums unless they qualify for premium assistance, government-sponsored income support programs, or are senior citizens.
) f g9 ^2 s! ^. b5 _ 2. Employers and benefit administrators who register and pay premiums on behalf of their employees will continue to do so.+ j( j# U* {5 b+ k" |$ l3 G- I
3. Alberta Health and Wellness will continue to pursue collections from those who fail to pay premiums.
% ?( Z/ q# K* U# X" g 4. Contributors to Alberta Blue Cross or other supplementary insurance plans that provide prescription drug, dental, and other extended coverage, will still pay those premiums, as they have not been eliminated.; u+ f1 c/ h: d& ?2 b9 ~1 G& r
5. New Albertans must register for the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan within three months of their arrival. |
