Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the5 k& s& G7 i' K0 G) J
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule/ }6 I8 W# R, K m1 k! q: [$ q/ A1 N
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
# A" l W- W6 D- ^, B* C% x( ?' M8 O1 eenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
2 P2 b4 W: g# }# B( V& Bmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;3 n; f2 J! a* s- s w' e k7 X5 q/ j
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
6 `6 g1 J9 _' R1 x# L0 l* \3 x8 q0 c
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
+ R& o3 S5 L" a- F* Z2 h2 m) Bto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates' Q! F5 F' o) I8 v p; |
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
% L0 M: i! d$ jreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
% T9 \7 L$ |5 X$ Z) qresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the7 G' m% K/ N. z* c7 c9 |5 ]
importance of composting and recycling.

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
* t& c8 Z" K3 w# |Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;$ a; |$ q2 Y. T( O( m) g
public education display booths; assisting with programs and! }' M- S: H# j& v5 c2 m5 s
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
0 d% x. E6 i- w9 p% ~9 g9 cvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
7 t; w. v1 X' t8 Ipresentations.0 ]$ q% t* @" d; ` O: C
* Z i, g& {/ f7 fThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and5 X. g/ @1 d1 s2 @0 Z* ?
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
& ]: E1 ^6 E, f3 w. X! S* [: v/ emost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your% F) i, l) z, v! b
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master% J# Z# l/ b5 E) H- Y
