Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
$ K& t1 Y/ T( ?$ L& M* E2 DMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
. G0 b' |% H9 |+ z* f' x) S(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about9 w4 l$ Y( n/ W/ a& `
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste& {5 @# C' z) z" z) ?9 p2 R
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;8 t$ y/ _- Y1 m! |" u' K
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
8 t2 I1 E& I, p. s$ x2 x) Z& `3 j Y
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
& N$ [9 ^) I E/ I# J" Oto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
4 n: s4 M1 O" e" Q2 ?! |complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:, q& C8 D! A' J4 @+ H+ y
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important) f) t9 ]5 v" C3 n' {' E) ~
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the. R2 \9 d* M' \; Q- I6 R' ?
importance of composting and recycling.7 s0 {; i: L- T" X: k
- z0 Z* s' J* UExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the. U& }4 q3 u d3 Q* y2 ?
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
& ^3 Q& p% H. y Z: `public education display booths; assisting with programs and% c7 k/ K+ b2 W0 s
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at; {& O4 f9 s! i- b4 X$ A
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
) j1 G) b( N7 N8 T' i' qpresentations." s3 I( Q( @& h& y

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
' T$ { Y& C7 A' j% ^% g8 Avolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the7 s3 P( t- u8 G1 i3 ?5 W* a" L
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your, T" r3 a& H7 Z
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master1 p# x% ~, m! I
