A baby food recall is underway as a popular Heinz baby cereal may contain elevated levels of a mycotoxin.

( j) G( u; J% [ A- rThe Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Heinz Canada are warning parents about ‘Heinz Mixed Cereal, Stage 2, From 6 Months’. The best before date codes located on the top left hand corner of the package are ‘BB/MA 10 DE 26’ and ‘BB/MA 10 DE 29’.4 |1 _8 p+ J8 ?9 j, b' G" \/ X
No illnesses have been reported from consuming the cereal. Heinz Canada says that the cereal may contain elevated levels of Ochratoxin A (OTA).

, @+ f% K) L5 ^0 x4 }1 aIn a news release, CFIA says Ochratoxin A is a mycotoxin produced by fungi that can grow in food such as grains, grapes and coffee beans and has been classified by as a possible human carcinogen. M' _1 Y6 ~5 a1 [+ x: v7 c: m
8 A" M$ s& Q L' _) JCFIA says that if a child has consumed the food, there is no need to seek medical attention since the substance is not harmful when eaten as part of a healthy diet over the short term.
