A baby food recall is underway as a popular Heinz baby cereal may contain elevated levels of a mycotoxin. C* t) C, x' b8 g# |& |1 Q
8 |0 c6 R! x& q; SThe Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Heinz Canada are warning parents about ‘Heinz Mixed Cereal, Stage 2, From 6 Months’. The best before date codes located on the top left hand corner of the package are ‘BB/MA 10 DE 26’ and ‘BB/MA 10 DE 29’.( E; r# ^ r' C7 y9 k
No illnesses have been reported from consuming the cereal. Heinz Canada says that the cereal may contain elevated levels of Ochratoxin A (OTA). 9 m/ _& u' ?6 q
3 T4 j1 j# ~* N! z* Z/ f# fIn a news release, CFIA says Ochratoxin A is a mycotoxin produced by fungi that can grow in food such as grains, grapes and coffee beans and has been classified by as a possible human carcinogen.: r, H" E8 ^, \8 G# T
G5 ~+ k$ A+ O7 C* X0 LCFIA says that if a child has consumed the food, there is no need to seek medical attention since the substance is not harmful when eaten as part of a healthy diet over the short term.
