The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic - y3 ~" e& T/ q" U4 ?# G

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
, K; N1 N+ U: i/ _Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 5 H; R/ Y& H7 Q' B+ u: i
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities
5 g5 n& ~7 U! d
. d' Y6 h( t3 G! m5 GReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
& \8 ]. I, u4 v* [* Nexecution of the YWCA Strategy ' s2 ]+ a& e8 ?3 j
3 h0 s2 T& X) u: A3 D
Specific responsibilities include:  ) x9 o/ R; p  I1 b" \
" w" y" ?2 X& b3 X& K
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of / ~4 M$ E/ c7 t
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by , {5 X) K# E# s4 K( Z
the Board of Directors;  
5 P- _4 B6 S, Y•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
* x7 l- c  p& F  N6 @/ sincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 3 E/ V% c4 ~  w, O7 `! ]
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
. Q+ r4 C$ ?9 ^9 k( T. z•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
7 D8 D- N" O9 {- r8 cobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
& M7 K9 h, k9 z4 f, O8 Ethe board;  
- Y* ^* C% F7 R- ^2 d6 P. G•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
' U4 M" T  T5 W* z1 t•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
- a" h* m$ ^" V: f) s8 `the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; " f/ k) ~& n# S# k) N
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
. R) H. P5 r  Y  g7 jchanging needs of the organization and community; & B. k" w& {* N7 R* v3 R
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
( K7 G5 X+ V: Z5 p$ e2 xcommitments;
& t* Y4 p" V3 L( q6 d) h•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  ; a: p9 A/ T2 ^# o7 ^" O( y( R
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective " X6 T1 u- M) l8 y' P
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
7 T' x# \9 e7 h$ V2 D. _•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; / T) N9 k4 x6 u- c- ]% ?: n$ O! F8 t
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
* @' v/ U3 w- n2 j0 peffectively and positively represent the association; ; S6 S" y! W/ W( u

•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
" K* ~% {8 X) Z# R3 E+ N! M9 |the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  # R5 s3 ~) B8 P( P- ]8 d
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 4 w1 A8 o) j0 ^$ r) f4 A, x
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ) u# [$ \. B+ K. h' j/ c* }) G
the forthcoming year;  
9 t, O# E( u# e& O+ S•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
4 v$ K" A+ R( w. C2 O! Y* apractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ; k3 m2 |% [. U/ P: a4 k: b9 H# D
YWCA Canada; and
1 C' F3 F0 G2 B" A: L& ?2 n2 i•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 8 p* Z4 Y" I% }; Q+ R

0 q2 F- I/ ~( u8 ?•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;

) @- Y" D% M4 B) z9 n8 \5 Z- |•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;   C# N/ O$ D) P: q
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable $ c& g7 M, J3 |2 c
and achievable with realistic timeframes; 8 [0 F: O- B( s# O
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
( F+ H. @: z5 M- ]simultaneously;

•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and % o. |' d" O; m

Required Professional Designation / Certification
+ K  f) [2 v1 S; y( ?1 {•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. # S; S' K; |  [2 ?, X4 ~9 w

( E4 \5 }* r# KRequired Experience
- O- ?. c* V6 J: P+ G' h•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; ( Z$ ]4 T/ K  Y5 x% h/ \
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation . J7 o# X6 x. }' e
abilities;
4 w0 S1 L4 X2 }- l9 Z: \•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 8 m' m6 T1 H! M0 h1 m
Networking and Fundraising;
3 Q) @1 \" v+ U•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
6 C$ c! A8 U% L1 u* |and financial statements; and ( p- c( A, V& G3 V- l. f
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
. K! m4 y# \: q2 N9 h) Ycentered perspective.
