newcomers to strengthen and enrich their life in Canada.

1 S# E# K" ?+ X; V  Primary  purpose:      The  Social Worker works  in  partnership  with  settlement  workers  or
. B! I6 n* H  Q! R  `community  cultural  brokers  from  New  Canadian  Health  Network  partner  organizations  to
$ D+ c3 V( s5 G" E6 Z7 Z* ~; k" Zprovide supplemental support to newcomers who have complex needs.  
  
  Nature of Work: The Social Worker will  report  to  the manager of mental health services.  
! K4 I/ _) I* ^# l# yThe position builds working relationships with New Canadian Health Network partners’ staff,
0 ?, e( b8 k5 l! v; Qnewcomers accessing these services and other institutions and service providers. The Social
Worker will  assist  in  case  planning,  conferencing  and  providing  support  and  advocacy  as
$ Q( H" k1 `" a: Uneeded.    As  required,  the  Social Worker  will  assist  in  accessing  community  supports  for
6 b( a# i. \: }3 U7 Q/ wnewcomers  and  their  families.  The  Social  Worker  provides  holistic  and  flexible  initial
7 `+ @: e- D0 V' H$ }) `/ Xassessment  of  life  circumstances,  needs,  goals  and  aspirations  and  adheres  to  the  client-
centered delivery model.  

7 `( i2 a0 E* {0 H/ S  ^6 G9 g Key Accountability
  Understands and adheres to professional ethics related to social work.
* G2 E1 R& s, A4 p* T; y5 N- Q) v( l  Accesses comprehensive, up-to-date information about services and resources available
' [- W* h, F( L8 [6 J  ~within the city of Edmonton and New Canadian Health Network partners.
. {7 E1 S+ F1 F0 w2 x" U  Providing holistic information or advocacy services for immigrants and refugees served.
+ L9 r& R3 }3 a- m+ w' F* p  Developing of social networks and community supports for newcomer families.
  Provide intake, needs assessment, referral, case plans and action plans to support
7 Y$ i- o9 Y4 z$ I7 a! bnewcomers in settling and fully participating in community.
  Work in partnership with settlement workers or cultural brokers to provide supplemental
& R. g, `3 w& O  k6 ^case plan support for clients who have complex needs.
  Advocate on newcomers’ behalf to programs, institutions and service providers.
9 I" q9 @6 p/ \  Treat all clients with dignity and patience in order to listen deeply and give thoughtful  
- ?. |7 T% J  ^% ]service.

" o! ^1 E" Q( f% d/ D! s0 L
  Relevant undergraduate degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of education and
experience in Social Work or related human service fields.
# ?9 B$ Q* g. ?/ ?* }- U8 \  Extensive knowledge of community resources, including in depth understanding of family
support needs
9 ~+ c$ o" R9 P  Experience/facility with MS Office computer applications
  Proficiency in both official languages is an asset, as is fluency in other languages
  Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle with appropriate
insurance coverage for work

Experience:  Minimum of 3 years experience working in a related field
& }/ t- f, {7 L8 L$ S+ \% D

  Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and strong commitment to providing quality services to
1 x6 Z) ~2 z* Fnewcomers
% z6 [$ z5 y. H# N  Flexibility in terms of scheduling, including evenings and weekends at various locations
/ V: u( d+ k* s4 P( ^  Previous experience in working collaboratively with staff from partner organizations

Skills

Strong English communications skills
Experience/facility with MS Office computer applications
