Youth Worker

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

) H& b" B+ r8 ^, S1 V$ Y7 N2 r6 Q: Q8 [ Facilitate delivery of safe and supportive drop-in programming, while supervising youth.
* a1 o3 n7 X4 B Coordinate food and recreational programs on and off-site.+ q2 G# @8 M4 [4 R5 h9 J  l; |
 Provide positive role-modeling and maintaining a healthy atmosphere for the youth.
" d, i6 Y& ?" `8 {- ?; t" h" V( _ Completing required paperwork.
1 Q) m  F' r8 L9 H4 r* p Attending scheduled staff meetings and workshops.! {8 M6 l& h  S; P& O  H* x
 Following and implementing all program policies and procedures.
8 F7 s8 H3 C4 m; u, i Maintaining confidentiality of client and program personnel information. # n8 N! k5 h, D9 P+ V
 Representing the Teen Centre in a professional manner.5 f! ~, L% }9 H5 {, X% n
 Maintaining professional boundaries between clients and staff.( [* N' T7 N/ b: @' O) j6 i
 Provide additional support to the program as needed under the direction of the Program Manager.
& R4 k5 |0 v& T7 S Reporting to the Program Manager on a Regular basis.
' \: u8 |0 c4 N/ x; p! e- K. E7 V  l$ L" i  G, m% f
$ V. i; }, `8 @5 v# C1 E1 {6 k
Qualifications:/ u$ n2 i3 H1 Z8 o8 D
! b' }8 T  l& N  v5 @
 Some post-secondary education needed OR a minimum 6 months related experience.
8 Y6 y& F( c$ Z0 w/ G Strong interpersonal, communications, teamwork, leadership and organizational skills.
! A' ~2 }& T" i" ?0 N Non-judgemental and empathetic attitude towards high-risk youth.* ]& s9 a% m- h# {
 Broad knowledge base on issues affecting high risk youth: addictions, abuse, Aboriginal and other cultures, poverty, sexuality, etc.
2 W: z1 d  ^' U Knowledge of community resources.
2 t" L( V2 l% M8 h1 Z: q- l Criminal Record Clearance and Child Welfare Information System Clearance.
7 O7 S- z0 V" x& V Standard First Aid and Suicide Intervention Training.
$ x9 ?5 h2 m9 j5 J9 \9 A% W3 V, ^: u' h/ u8 j
Position:9 s- l, i* @3 K* E
This is a part-time position; 15hrs/week; evening and weekend shifts; at an hourly rate of $12.50; starting February 8 2006.
& R* {; d0 j, o  l, k6 G1 {' S% HThere is a 3-month probationary period.
