Roles and Functions
# \/ N% D; k+ L' QThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the+ B% m& s0 L2 @. a: v8 t
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the, w& t% `) Z! |2 e
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
! k; H8 A4 s& Y+ Cthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
* P4 r3 G7 X- b! R4 L6 `) a$ Roperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
) w8 N- f- [( v5 E2 c+ |2 dboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is- x4 \, r8 a& J$ C# M3 D2 l. a4 z7 B- O
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
5 \$ g: o' N% G+ X2 m$ nemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires2 y/ w( |1 D o
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend( m8 h/ o) w" E+ s9 u G7 b2 I
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
6 {. I* M" [) q8 V8 LThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:4 d" i6 ?5 f4 U
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
' E- n( N! G) `! w9 S8 f vofficers of the Coalition
' V W+ N5 e' b3 Y. j2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
9 I! T D/ y! L9 |) t$ v- d7 D5 b- xorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
+ `( C6 V. P; J3 ^5 Kand public institutions2 M+ B4 g0 Q2 c
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
6 S( h9 _: B+ j; m# L0 L8 W) S& r8 Ffunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives! A& s; E. X/ ~ q
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community0 ~: N" ?) \1 S k! K. R6 m: R3 G+ X* d9 B
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically: v; r1 c A f: F
diverse backgrounds

Administrative responsibilities:7 C& {- y# T, e3 s2 q$ l( i
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its% u C) j% r8 O( n7 w/ S
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of9 X8 a+ |: D. H, w: I* w5 z
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the7 I9 h5 M+ h" ]0 l. g1 M$ V- y7 ]
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
+ \# f* z2 F% K( @- y2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the$ w6 n4 Z& Q8 J5 `+ K! ?! E7 ^

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
* j/ }% f6 q2 {% c2 C! R B% PAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
, \* D( ?% `" [/ D$ Mimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating( s) N0 {% X0 A. b6 {
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.4 x8 q' |- `- @8 }' `2 F6 j
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
8 h( v) s+ x9 N8 T4 }) U9 {aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should9 ?& L0 z7 R2 f E: d- k! n3 j
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
8 {% C, P) h3 _! {) n; x8 r& bparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
" B8 g" p2 U9 A4 K5 G8 _$ i8 kfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
( I1 m, J* F: h5 \# adirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial9 b# h, {/ I, d5 Y3 O; v; A% G$ k
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
+ p, a/ M; S: kmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
: R) u J& a- l0 z* Y; ?directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
& C5 ^% [) G6 x" rpolicies already adopted, A, K, K5 w; K9 _1 \
