service providers.

' ~7 g" T' G! a5 q- X- SOur government recognizes that the Internet and digital technologies are- K) d% _2 p H* J+ F
an increasingly important part of everyday life—including driving

; c! l1 a _3 TCanada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look. X& F, u& i( s: v4 R( t4 @+ S
carefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture. We will be
: [! U8 X. }% Vguided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and
$ q8 m5 l1 O4 ~: n! E# H7 Iinvestment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing# W# G5 y/ Q4 w! s

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has
U3 k, K( r* h4 H9 C' k* Q1 ^chosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large1 S3 j/ x8 y% r4 b
number of Canadians. Details of the CRTC consultation are available at; n# e3 L0 D" r; \. M7 A

When the CRTC reaches a final decision following its consultations, the
+ B- e* x* X3 d1 E, Q) ygovernment will carefully assess the CRTC position to ensure that it is in

% `4 i5 G" \. Pcompetition among internet service providers. I will be recommending that
2 }& z" z6 S; E) s; tany decision counter to these foundational principles be reversed.
