T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
! ?3 ?' E& S& \6 UAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
3 u; d% O1 l: ropportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on : l  _! V+ h* R0 Y( d
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
' N! a' I6 h6 |8 Zand  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

! f0 S0 j4 V- c( {5 u. }What will take place in the sessions?
# C& \5 R. J9 L! x& N+ bEach session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.  B7 Z0 D3 _: h/ i, ^
* e, t2 H& ^* N6 {" `/ e1 j
These activities will enable youth to:
1 I% P& f3 t% b5 x( z) M3 | Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
8 ?9 A$ z9 k. n6 u Learn how to access community services and programs+ [6 d- v1 a  C& @) @' W$ t
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills) ?8 g$ n2 q& q2 W
 Identify personal leadership strengths …9 u9 Y6 `* P& C5 M

; E2 v0 b; d4 ]8 C5 y' x$ C7 z- iProgram Schedule:
0 p( w! L1 U# b# L9 Z# \, q6 A  XRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.  U- h8 h8 u9 i$ o* s" g. N
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
3 ~- S6 Y) W" y) N) d8 @                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily# B# I! m; N7 M0 V* W

7 m! y' P6 F* m0 s# sWho can participate?
: W+ Q& L  B6 R; T1 ^% qAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area./ o( `" B0 r% y4 n7 U# `; E0 T

3 c! W9 J2 w0 G2 x9 I. AWhat is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
5 i- T4 Y6 Z( Q. _& [% O9 `It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.
, ~0 y( }+ R% U" d: P
; w, R# {. l6 s- s
& w0 ?* D' D8 iVolunteer’s Duties:
8 a, @5 v5 _: n4 t# q3 H
$ g! n9 k8 H! s3 Q) I& A Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
+ S) ^1 ^* I2 m4 Q Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
7 n9 e$ J8 w  R! g, D) T2 n5 w Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities7 I/ Z) K. [- v7 u* r& {' g
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
" S: ]) N: l5 v, [( D; @( H( @1 C Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
0 Q7 b( d4 g! E  ]0 {5 d7 G! c Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips& |1 w& \# E9 n2 I. j
 Assist in program planning& C7 j( \- `2 a5 j+ ^
 Be a role model5 |9 `3 G3 U- X- \- W7 ^

5 h1 y: m; x4 YVolunteer Commitment:
* ~+ B1 V- ]6 H! Z: P3 y
- d$ F2 S* Y. R  `  j0 _ On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)4 [7 x- X1 A& A2 q+ m2 q
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer

Attitude/Skills Requirements:

) P; d' K7 W4 G" O* m1 G+ I* y# F2 ?" L Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
0 F; u( B# k* R) L# B1 T" t Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
) j3 w/ l. x7 z; t% U) _ A team player# W" i, J) E8 h4 N
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision/ q$ g6 y0 M5 r6 S
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
3 n2 a' a9 g. R2 R Willing to work with youth including youth at risk" K% K/ f! o" \$ O- l0 p- T" n
) T& [- D* Q1 B$ Y1 [
