T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip ; k8 G2 g/ f- V
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
' p( x4 s% k* [" a8 T( aopportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on 0 r+ ^+ l, _5 P5 {
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, / \! P9 L4 X1 I  W
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

3 A/ f' T& K& U6 z8 n  p: _. vWhat will take place in the sessions?
- c. x  P* Z, ~Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

) a4 W# j9 U+ F" }These activities will enable youth to:, C1 `- j2 D: p4 r2 z
 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
- W8 X; w. I* t( X" y* r Learn how to access community services and programs
" [( X8 |5 n2 | Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills$ s0 U5 Y# R" b6 X" K6 n) E' ^
 Identify personal leadership strengths …7 x/ s" r4 s4 r/ g! Y

- U8 j4 n! }7 ?; iProgram Schedule:
# P; o2 j( z- \9 kRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
; S% Q2 |! R" C$ e% _Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily# B+ z0 d7 e$ t/ |; @  U
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
' w5 @. A% ]5 w% ^+ K3 ^$ v/ r$ m: w$ S6 M4 H0 A# {. b6 H- H1 o0 D' \
Who can participate?
  A6 P4 ^. i) G, g2 P0 }* P8 {, @7 lAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.
  [+ y# L# E0 H2 c5 X" u; Q% T. B  B8 M5 G; t4 E. B% L6 J; R9 G9 G$ u
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?2 L/ x& @& s( @. r! C" s% }( U8 @
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.5 |6 h. n% n, R

/ \" a) V5 g1 u% G5 L; {7 A
- s# S( [/ Y, J9 X! ~8 G( R/ vVolunteer’s Duties:( X/ z& o0 M$ g

" I$ h% a2 ]1 W$ X Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies - o: b7 d1 K- H) f8 ]
 Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
& Q! G3 }" T+ t. }- H  G Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
  s' n! I: M& \) S, d Facilitate or assist in small group discussions& I) v) x) x" `4 R* ~) O
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
6 [6 S: Z7 O2 q0 K Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips/ {6 Y0 d8 D# m: `. H. H  c8 k
 Assist in program planning
) ]2 C* w( Y  S; C: j Be a role model
3 @7 j; ~0 `# v& `8 a  B/ l9 c' C. D; Z2 P, A" B0 q: u9 V! ]
Volunteer Commitment:
/ b% f, H- E1 F: \8 F; u
  B6 S$ I% L2 f3 P( ] On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)1 T5 g( p! w7 I5 ^1 R0 s9 X. D
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer+ l2 S/ |* B% ]

Attitude/Skills Requirements:4 n8 a6 S4 O* ]& A; @' J

  V' L' h) G) y+ F$ P1 H8 P1 A Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator* b+ p: I8 U/ E" ^. n
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program$ f9 l: N. e; G) A( b* ^5 E
 A team player1 {+ m2 y" N- I8 t9 E
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision
; w: Q, m0 T( z- @6 ]' E- o3 l$ ` Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families/ F/ w6 S# G& G# b2 k
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
) Q+ e* g% a" U! w
