T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
/ n1 T- S* j& X* ~! {- f, E; fAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
2 a2 X" p U. F0 lopportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on 0 p' d# @' c. w8 {6 z+ x
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, ; y3 R" F/ p, [ F
and Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.5 ~$ N; P3 T6 ~2 K' E

What will take place in the sessions?( _6 @/ ~- M5 ~! [& [; V% l, z
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

These activities will enable youth to:

 Learn how to access community services and programs# l% z: w, u u- a
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills

! T2 f: Q, x2 q' C. UProgram Schedule:4 O2 e% y; r) \ V* p
Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.- r- h* e" w3 _( L1 x$ S
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
' e+ K y! a( k4 V7 b$ l 2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily( I4 Q7 W0 [* ` u9 R

Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.% D0 `4 A* J* Z
' b( v- O# n0 AWhat is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
# w6 Z0 {5 t0 I, D" TIt is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.

Volunteer’s Duties:
) q. K. m1 P2 Q9 I( W( ^% ~6 U2 D
& H) p! s* d9 o8 k) d5 v5 ~8 [1 p: ~; ^ Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
, d. ]4 L8 D6 u1 w' N Facilitate and/or coordinate activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
' q7 Y0 m+ l8 C& z1 n Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities2 s( U; }0 ~' d* r E/ J% h4 R, v- J
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
' L6 d* R$ W, M" r, D9 W, ` Research activities related to the sessions’ topic4 j7 r8 \& _; V. ]* B$ w) i* J5 D
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips% n6 |9 V S6 x% O
 Assist in program planning; x" P, \* [# P
 Be a role model

 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)! w- ~) @: c! t' Y* S T
 One time volunteers: minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer% C" T# l/ p0 n8 \! w

 Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator

 Able to work independently with minimum supervision9 v) s' ]) q0 a
