T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip * n2 i4 l' f4 B% V% c
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
/ v9 V% s) y/ ]/ oopportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on 2 B' a" h0 [8 ?' a6 x. u/ J' ^
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
9 g9 A, R5 S0 i3 m+ Mand  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.( ~) ?' W7 A$ j) O& l/ I4 r) |$ {

What will take place in the sessions?7 v% r+ y5 r0 R5 N# s/ d" `
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

% `  Z7 G$ A/ I8 DThese activities will enable youth to:
& a7 L# w: m2 T* _0 C; s& `' u Explore personal interests in arts and recreation8 n* P* i' C. P% @6 I+ _1 b
 Learn how to access community services and programs
. H: w" v% \5 }1 Z$ l2 R6 j Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills7 L" k1 @5 H+ b' a7 P3 }# i: E
 Identify personal leadership strengths …/ l! i' O/ }- \  s% i# R/ y4 m: p

* B  T4 I6 l! q5 s/ ?& hProgram Schedule:
* M; D+ K! M* jRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
4 N" R  h3 @8 f1 ~8 H& QSummer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
0 x+ j6 `& ~* c, O                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily  \' s0 y4 F+ G8 Z# r6 h

  I8 w4 P5 V) V0 Y+ |. e( K" ~# aWho can participate?
: J, L( \3 \9 _Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.
& D5 x5 e1 X5 e9 n9 R, D! {0 L+ O, v; T) U
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
$ Z# O5 X" [4 S$ Y( L% F4 @It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.
* V% ^2 S( M+ R
$ v8 _9 A& b: A7 I4 f
. s3 W4 I- c- P; B" \8 qVolunteer’s Duties:
  x4 l8 ]& i3 w* X' `! C; j# s$ B0 V: A* _; R# C
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
7 s7 b- P3 B1 y Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development 8 v. K! x+ \$ K3 i2 m* G, J! G
 Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities2 v; `& K. y% W+ [* `$ ^
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
- B# h$ k5 q0 H Research activities related to the sessions’ topic: O5 u2 M# Y1 r4 V. y) @% g
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
# m) f9 a& W2 |0 Q1 E% s9 Q Assist in program planning
7 B/ t2 M- C+ ?! A! H& w8 t Be a role model! U$ x, M& M: ]- B9 }

Volunteer Commitment:
4 o3 B9 K9 r" J0 S/ p 3 f! o2 ?' T' A
 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
* }# V" e( |/ i% g. T+ x& X* b; H One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer
  b5 o/ y9 Q. G7 A2 K' O: _
5 T) |  r2 Y8 A; `Attitude/Skills Requirements:8 f+ U  J, H3 m* @( B

1 L; Z6 m$ V  t/ l' t Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator5 Z/ V2 H# Z- e. l* F
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program( ?7 e/ g2 r5 a* R
 A team player
5 w* z9 j& b1 U Able to work independently with minimum supervision
4 P; n) x7 A: @8 h) o Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
/ N4 A: V: L$ b! S1 D Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
  O9 j: O, y8 ~: w  n6 a9 s' f+ Z5 {, A- m( k2 s
