$ C9 X# x. H, H7 L
: f: S$ l. v- v4 S        1. I couldn't care less.
+ Z2 a3 |! b! Z+ ?7 k" A3 q, Y  T( B
5 [+ ?1 ]+ w) Q5 a' Y+ L  r 这句话的意思是“我不在乎”,“缺乏兴趣”(lack of interest),也就是:I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如:
! g& \* R- o+ n4 a1 [! c
5 B& q; @$ O6 `" f# R: g* O- C 人家如果问: What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?) 6 z& u$ u' j5 h& E2 L( J; \
2 D  _9 u" U8 n
  你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎) * }5 p4 L, q1 Y9 b& y4 y9 m( O) G

1 n; p' m+ Y8 t5 o How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?) - o+ M- ~; p4 G3 @. t/ z
2 X" ^) o/ L' f
  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!)
  v7 H. i0 M* U: H) j0 b9 p
% x6 F9 X) }% \6 D  @, x) e- {& h; E6 y2 i. G, E2 S
I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪)
8 P+ D$ d7 j& Q- B3 l9 u$ V$ _( i
Yes, you do(care).   A! K. W$ y) K6 e& b  t1 Q

8 L& ~* J! [( ?( |, r' z 至于 I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理: & z/ \' e! }; ^. }' x/ f7 x; Y# P5 v1 A4 _
/ T) J7 S5 \. u6 C) T
  I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意)
/ e% s1 A( p5 U) C* V: ~- y( t; @) Y# k# P/ k; k+ I
I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴)
' [. s( A2 C2 O* _9 g7 A9 |& T8 O
I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right.
& B# g* @  M! B6 n/ X3 d9 `' r0 R1 V4 X6 X: X
; F& Y" Z( r* c4 c8 u0 v
, @2 e% _% i, Y8 X' u; e1 C I couldn't be more wrong.
1 Y) ]" M; u" M+ K$ e  B5 r
- d" M2 s5 M( a* _: M5 d

I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) ' M# v" k: d. x, B" G4 ?. `; y

/ K8 n- J; Z' p! r; ~( n! m, n/ ] I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。) , ^. ]* r# Y1 |7 G! C  @
  m) S7 G% S- W$ Y
  2. No bones about it.
+ l% N- Q# W( Y5 |0 u, ?; ]
# K0 ]7 j3 o: A8 g 意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如:
2 |' ~2 b5 _: |, R# V/ }: [% w
# {/ V. a1 O, I7 R. \ His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮)
4 r% h( V$ {3 s7 }- S; ~) m. L- J, s, L7 Y5 v
Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。)
4 X3 ?; l5 H, ]/ Z, J! F4 {
" K' ^. U0 E, } When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法) 4 I) n4 p: M5 X- u& @

4 p& m. w$ l! x No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了)   W0 z- @& c6 D

, O, C3 n; b4 \ 3. take it on me! 6 n5 o8 f# F! ]. e+ e1 x" a

- e7 d6 P8 |$ X) e 意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如:
5 C3 L2 ?. `* g0 B
8 n1 i( q; Y6 I* M6 W( {# s: ^4 W Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy)
7 n3 ?+ F3 E& k* ~, [& l$ j4 b  I8 x' Z. s
  The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me." (餐馆老板对我说:“尝尝我的甜点吧!”) 8 U; c7 l$ F9 a! @& ]- I# W+ I

/ N! t: o' q" `" @" O# y8 H' t Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!) (也许铅笔上刻有名字,做为宣传之用而免费。)
' F4 m4 \8 U2 N* v8 S; |/ C- S" ~. \3 S: z8 K) x
  可见 take 后面的 it,是指 something,而 on 的后面通常不指别人,所以多半也只用在第一人称单数 me。 5 {/ M0 y0 H8 q, |. b! ?0 R3 U

% @/ W) W8 c9 y. X: d (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.) * H6 o: n7 S* h- y5 `' S; I2 j
. j! O" h- |% s- p  i' g/ u3 j5 _
  4. I am from Missouri.
; S: p# G4 ~( t' i
/ i& M# R+ W' ~ 这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。 ) f; j! \3 `) T4 h% d" t0 Q3 I
# G8 @' e) D" @& p; s' A3 Z
& U4 q  @, V$ ~* T
7 X/ Q6 _! j/ c! r: K4 S* Q- M He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri. 0 y- ~8 X* M) B. ^2 J- j) _7 f. h/ l

  [% B  h( _2 ^- o+ J. K Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) $ N3 k) Q" l% U$ l2 g; x' j
& [: B; F" ?6 O, _' t) r
We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown.
0 `9 X0 E2 E! Y# T; R/ x; M. Z" d! K: ?4 |
As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith
