, R# D7 n2 E) `& s* l0 c$ a. i2 ~
|" W3 [' F( F; F9 u9 z0 i
/ k5 U3 i5 P8 N+ J" Q6 R
(1) You can not teach an old dog new tricks ── 照字面意思是:你不能教老狗学新的把戏。 (Some people find it impossible to change their ways; or older people can not accept the changes or new ideas.) 例如: & e& Y& T( z/ H: V
* c5 n, H) J( @/ Z
Stop trying to teach an old dog new tricks; you are just wasting time.(别想教老狗新花样,你只是白花时间。) 6 {& K; S! J$ ^  m; r/ R: M
Are you trying to teach an old dog new tricks? 8 Q. ]# B: K, Y0 T0 g# T0 E/ Q

(2) All that glitters is not gold. (not every beautiful thing is valuable. All is not gold that glitters.

& g* z. O/ U, WI told my students that all that glitters is not gold.
* @: G% a+ g9 q9 L1 y2 z* d- T) m. l, k还有一句相似的成语:

4 w. L5 z2 P5 U+ z3 }(3) Pepole (或 Those) who live in glass houses should not throw stones (或 rocks) ── 照字面的意思是:住在玻璃屋里的人不可丢石头。 (Nobody is perfect, so we should not criticize others.) 类似的,还有: 9 O) Q/ B' Z* v5 q  B$ l

7 P% a- q9 p4 |9 |7 ?. p7 Z' q0 S  fDon't judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes. ' X, O# J, }* `# @) h2 \! P
(judge = criticize; have walked a mile in his shoes = have understood his situation well enough)
5 g! l- e2 |; f* z- g$ G另一句是: * o2 k9 t7 v" s5 @4 c/ M
6 i) X& W0 |3 T6 t" U2 j2 p
