Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall. C0 ~4 Q/ K6 e
not do any of the following:! s: |+ I, A+ b( L1 E
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor! \6 T' p) @% l% H) L
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
# L( I9 _3 ^& t! |8 ~2 C# ~% y) u1 C(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor/ ?6 U1 D7 \9 g" u5 J' V+ Y
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
$ u/ q3 F t2 t9 q$ E" N0 F' K(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,! L( j' K% l! |! h, l/ b. N
permit another person
# L _8 D2 Y' a* y, ?+ W(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
& A' x- d5 ~" a. R(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,- R4 Y6 j: O% W1 G. g4 ]
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;6 ~, p# `/ Z% ~& z* y9 h" H
(d) give or lend a financial
A& H; @. Y* g) q8 l1 I2 a& lresponsibility card or a copy of it- u& }2 D2 v7 \: x( h/ [
to a person not entitled to have that financial
* ~- E5 O8 c* f# H; l. cresponsibility card or copy.& T' g5 U: V/ h+ ~# M! V

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway4 P9 n6 g" S+ g8 c8 k2 w B" }
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
; X' P/ t' K) R2 k9 p3 mthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
$ G s( k: r# k7 p3 R3 h' Y2 q! T6 Y(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
0 P: c4 w- n3 ]4 Nnot an insured motor vehicle.$ o" G+ i" P# I+ k8 x8 `1 t* }

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a* \6 T* i8 j J1 Z# t& e/ ^
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
& @: T; f' O7 I( eInsurance Act
# |# h! N; j4 f0 c4 pby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy1 A* {2 u! D4 x
outside Alberta.4 F. s- F8 F z5 \

! ?6 {; S" E* c4 @* ]" tA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection* j0 Y: N3 ?* G1 C) Q; f
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,7 u" c V) z; E o9 j; }# ]! V
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $25000 [5 F; {$ s0 G! s# W; K$ v2 O
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
- b" A' q1 h' y. Y: U; E; Z# {imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not; A0 K" `. ?6 O. l. r/ i( }
more than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
