Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
3 V1 o: o# h5 V7 a# L' Mnot do any of the following:
0 c5 I6 Q9 C9 r' T# c. B5 C(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
% m7 G+ E" n! A( I! ]0 cvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;; ], z0 ]/ N j, d) j- s, E
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor3 A/ v- T" C. R3 V5 V- v3 Y% n) L
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
: H( N7 b5 _3 ?5 ~9 f/ d(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
6 {2 N: r4 V cpermit another person: y+ D! r) A2 s: K9 k8 [8 t
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or1 ?1 x+ t3 O% Z0 ?8 k" m7 }
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,/ a0 E: m$ y' C9 n/ Y# T! y; b( y
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;% q7 U( M7 \& j6 ? ]6 _; n
(d) give or lend a financial8 Z( E/ w& ?; h* l+ g9 t1 Z
responsibility card or a copy of it* O: V5 ]# I0 C- v; H8 ? ]$ C, M
to a person not entitled to have that financial5 g: E# _' e9 U0 E
responsibility card or copy.
+ T$ a# K( e/ c2 B(1.1)
5 G& P }- k4 ~+ B7 ^If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
# i3 f5 T5 h- H9 }4 T# ^1 uwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of+ D) a" q+ H7 x8 W* x8 |( u
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection' H0 A8 K2 x ^: d
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is6 F- A7 ~4 O, k2 M$ g
not an insured motor vehicle.' ^2 w# j) o# W' \

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this" B: M3 K2 N n9 j
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

$ Y& ]2 m$ }* v, A( U6 Z8 A5 |/ t* @Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a6 m6 x6 {$ a, ?
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the/ @" X+ R# l/ O
Insurance Act
+ s( a9 S! @1 h% rby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy4 `2 z8 z6 t/ D# G: n0 V
outside Alberta.
7 k- }9 d# t* i9 }2 }(4)$ _" f$ m4 Q+ L6 S% P
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection; Q1 D; E+ t/ P; L1 o: ^
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,8 y/ S% C$ r& \9 [( W6 K) V
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
2 ?2 Q% Y# K( [& x+ Fand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to4 ]' |5 r7 K# e! P& x
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not4 {9 J6 Z& y, z& }5 g
more than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
