A 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud man, who is fully dressed ! E8 V" a/ g( D# v
each morning by eight o'clock, with his hair fashionably coifed and
! K1 v( M: G3 E: P& c" _shaved perfectly applied, even though he is legally blind, moved to a
& Q& `4 Z3 D; `3 tnursing home today. ) _; I7 A; d0 K" T& g
$ q3 M3 x1 a! |! I6 A$ _" DHis wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. 5 K9 A. ]6 F# B* ^% s. c; L
After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home,
9 g" |: Y$ U' {$ l, t- Y! G) @3 L+ g6 ohe smiled sweetly when told his room was ready.

As he maneuvered his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual , V* C+ O5 C- @
description of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been

! _9 A4 c0 }, i4 E4 v"I love it," he stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having 1 F9 U8 Z4 u# b0 G
just been presented with a new puppy. A* ?" t; v* c. J! {

"Mr. Jones, you haven't seen the room; just wait."

"That doesn't have anything to do with it," he replied. # U, ? y, J: ^3 q
6 F; M* H5 E: R" W"Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my 0 i% O9 D' s4 H! C) L
room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged ... it's how
* V M d0 q k; T$ U$ f, zI arrange my mind. I already decided to love it." , o' B) H1 A: [+ e( S

It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. : _8 X0 h/ Q7 v) v6 L/ Q) W
5 u9 q( o; y. o# }7 S/ y
I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I ) K5 p8 c+ K$ d5 r, W* k7 ]/ ? M
have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed
/ h& \. K0 A' vand be thankful for the ones that do. \/ I+ r2 I9 g: i$ [- n/ O$ W

Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I'll focus on the new
/ m* ~8 x. C& j& R' aday and all the happy memories I've stored away.

Just for this time in my life.

Old age is like a bank account. You withdraw from what you've put in.

/ y# v! O0 o' q. j. g; lSo, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank
