A 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud man, who is fully dressed

shaved perfectly applied, even though he is legally blind, moved to a

His wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. 0 v- [0 [2 b: m& D; |
After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home,
3 `' k) |+ n* n: ]0 F% u- u/ Phe smiled sweetly when told his room was ready.
% k) y, F( B2 U8 e* S% H; ^+ X/ U$ Q: w+ q9 i7 d; U7 N3 [
As he maneuvered his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual 5 [9 y* \+ [) X( U9 ^" M
description of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been $ B, w8 f9 F" e0 T- w! L

) ~9 H. \8 K4 o4 a"I love it," he stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having : Z. T9 v8 [# V) z8 V+ E8 p

"Mr. Jones, you haven't seen the room; just wait."

"Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my $ K' k9 G1 a# Y9 S
room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged ... it's how

It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. ) j6 u0 S1 P) E2 S: o

I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I 3 ?: E6 i r6 `8 ?0 D/ A
have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed ' ^' S5 D# R( A$ T
and be thankful for the ones that do. - U$ B3 u- s3 n" a" w5 S& H) K

Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I'll focus on the new ( o, ]. h+ U9 O
day and all the happy memories I've stored away.
