　　North country scene:
                                                                                               
: x1 Z$ z# K! k4 O' d　　A hundred leagues locked in ice,

　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

　　Both sides of the Great Wall

　　One single white immensity.
$ ?# f2 ~  U7 F! F9 n7 H
　　The Yellow River"s swift current

　　Is stilled from end to end.

& I' V4 l7 C0 D1 g5 G　　The mountains dance like silver snakes

" ]1 n7 m. M/ s, y3 r　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,

　　Vying with heaven in stature.

　　On a fine day, the land,
1 C* C8 o" @! ]: ]6 j3 M  p% }
6 ^, G# h  c8 R# g* P6 s# D　　Clad in white, adorned in red,

　　Grows more enchanting.

　　This land so rich in beauty

　　Has made countless heroes bow in homage.

　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti

9 {& ]/ B2 c9 j% L, R. Q! l. v- L　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu

) l/ G. U1 X4 Y2 R/ [% N　　And Genghis Khan,
8 L6 q) b- G& p% g4 y
) F4 k* t$ X# s. L' c% P　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,

　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched

- @% q) ]( v) c- z9 B/ m　　All are past and gone!

$ }. B1 V- B$ p/ z　　For truly great men

　　Look to this age alone.
