8 d( i- G" s+ I/ OThe Liberals’ first federal budget was released earlier this week, and in it $570-million dollars was allocated for Canada’s tourism sector.

1 Y0 i' p4 q8 A/ eRoyce Chwin, the CEO of Travel Alberta, tells the Alberta Morning News how some of that money will be spent right here in Alberta.( l6 _) R! d! X- A4 K+ I6 X3 a

“$83.3-million, in terms of free admission for national parks, so that of course will apply here in Banff and Jasper as an example. It also looks like there’s an investment of about $66-million for new biking and walking trail within Jasper National Park.”

% b1 Z4 u4 }" Z& a1 {- }6 M8 ?Chwin adds that with the low Canadian dollar he expects we’ll see more Albertan’s traveling within our borders, rather than heading to the States.8 I; K* M" f' b) n2 r

“In terms of taking advantage of what’s here, we have made adjustments and improvements to the Canada website, from Travel Alberta. That’s going to show a number of itineraries and road trips throughout the province. Those are great suggestions for Albertans or other Canadians who decide to take a staycation, and want to see something new and different.”

VIA Rail will also get 34 million dollars for maintenance and upgrades. |
