EDMONTON — Southgate Centre today began a $108 million expansion to accommodate more than 30 new retailers and restaurants.

2 a: ?) V3 R* M6 l1 V0 n( QThe two-year project, facing 111th Street, will add 126,000 square feet of leasable space on the ground floor — and two levels of parking above.

“Part of the redevelopment will include enhanced site lighting and closed-circuit TV security systems monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Southgate general manager Paul Fairbridge.

It also will include hotel-quality washrooms and private sitting rooms for nursing mothers.9 _; l. E% [2 o7 r# N1 Y

* K) _) e8 u- D* SSouthgate, a 36-year-old mall located south and west of 51st Avenue and 111th Street, now has 130 stores and services. It is owned by Ivanhoe Cambridge, based in Montreal.
