Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:

9 m/ J X/ V) l2 A0 h2 M• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
$ Y& N8 L: X8 c( M, {8 b• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.$ k L b: } M1 ^' B0 N
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. 4 u7 e/ e- h1 V& a' S
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
g4 n# ?4 w7 u• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.

• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).

Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services

• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.' X/ q, I* }0 k3 F9 q8 [, N
• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities./ |8 j+ J& T7 @7 r
• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

• Loading and unloading materials from trucks.

• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
8 Y' A- T6 F# u: d• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.6 G3 h' Y+ l3 h5 o- e6 |
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.+ h) r) z" b; ~. ?
• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.# y. A9 b+ x- n, o1 Q! Q$ y
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.$ |5 Y( z5 V5 p0 c
• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift." o6 U" j1 Z, o3 \+ B
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.5 @+ F6 F1 H$ o$ w; o `
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.3 q* U9 ?; Q. A% {8 j
