2 W6 @# i  `& o' dJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  6 w7 H: X- V9 C# ]
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  % n. M& c; Z. c* G
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  , W' J. T6 x4 O: E
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
8 W8 |  X5 E6 x6 E' Q  }# _Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
% B$ O$ P" g1 o. s. O2 b4 `; gyear following their appointment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000
% h% X1 O. O! U' P! m2 ^
; v, J5 N& c; g* V2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.3 p+ `- d- ^9 T: W
9 \$ b) K( o' ^: \/ H5 n
3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.: r7 s* D! b5 y/ m* o* s, C! u

9 c3 @# \+ W, S6 v% \4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  - q" w: s1 T+ _& h
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  # R: a7 {. l, a1 x- Y0 D0 e
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.. i- R# y) m; m3 o) Y) }

3 }) }: h$ E; x! i# ]8 G7 X9 X5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/ ; g  u8 Q) u+ Z, {: e& j# |; I, l
referenda." A1 ]8 |5 T) d* S& u; z* |* R

, _) w/ n$ ?  h' M# ^& a6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
4 F" f' `$ V4 L- e' Xparties." }  `# L8 }2 d

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
2 e" u5 O# v* `2 y1 \% b: jreferendum.. v4 z/ T$ Q& ^- ^

2 C9 \7 X6 `) _# B. H# B To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  2 u% H$ F# q0 K; x
Bylaw 2000.* M1 z4 E' o  q' _2 [: m, P

/ _+ e2 l4 v( T' I/ m+ g  o- w$ m10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
6 F! d$ ^; w( B- Z" E1 ?- ~minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
# F" X* W9 h4 a% S" Pfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  # D: A2 d# ~' N$ o  Z! c
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.# D0 S( k% z) Q# d/ |. N# P3 {3 J; K; N

  B6 x8 _* Y0 u- O9 e$ U11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
( O& H0 n7 [: ~the course of an election/referendum.
( \6 U! \" }- r6 ^! l# S5 C$ [1 Y( ?: b2 s; F3 I
12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  & c$ h: p: }( |; T+ Q) H
process is in place.

/ R+ P. [1 L4 j  i* C13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
( X/ y3 n8 K5 j4 ?$ I" w" J% |" T8 N. c0 Sof activities and recommendations.. |1 c+ o3 q" U+ e7 d

; Q7 {$ @! w: x% Z6 e; F+ Z- q14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
9 M! b6 S6 w* }4 E* u/ k( B2 S3 f9 Yof campaigning.% x; O0 g# |2 ~; V- f7 k+ @* k( A

: ?- m  r( l) z4 n4 c) |4 C15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  , X4 C, W6 B" y8 `
Administration Committee.

0 S2 J7 ~& q9 _3 O% q: x. ~- VQUALIFICATIONS:, E) Z% W# z. ]* ?# g7 \. C' q
+ x, |, P. Y4 S  f8 J9 Z- v" d
1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
; Q3 u; o6 U9 l, ifor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  3 v6 S, p- y$ S
Union member.
6 n% d0 u7 k1 l+ S- ~* S( r2 U8 P$ l( c% r! |# h% c
2) Must have some experience in student elections.* M7 Y% i) Y5 n3 B* f6 K" m

1 M' |  }& p8 k* X7 n3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  6 |$ D" _& A" }; ?
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  4 B  R4 E9 V7 e# L( `
with the Students' Union.# N2 c& U% C! f, q

7 Y5 k2 v  ?5 W' t" ]0 u4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.- i7 [+ A- i' L/ S' y; d- a

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  1 F9 I2 v" \4 P5 m$ b# o
