Remuneration: $6,032.00 contract

  j. Z* Q3 A2 \2 RJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
5 s) L4 S  m0 F: c/ U/ _- wthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
6 q) g( S# C9 V2 ^2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  # _& |5 j( D4 t! n; B2 [
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
7 G5 f3 v( ?8 B+ q, m: I* c. s7 ~5 @Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
2 t1 `' E+ O! P* y; K% o- `year following their appointment.

: ?1 q: T! R9 l% b, @/ IDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000" G2 b% y) Y! ]8 j! J6 C

2 j8 M+ c$ E6 X7 h( s$ `$ k5 @2 \2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.
0 p. f9 M5 y. y2 D6 @; m  S9 u' P: t1 k
3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.
+ d0 F, P4 E: p3 h0 u; v
. f. h, t. e% v5 B  d( T4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
3 R: v1 ~# l" i0 S: K( K1 d9 jadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
% V: P. U8 [- i* _) Xacross campus, and advertising the poll locations.
% t- y) C0 E4 l4 s8 O
5 Z/ i' t& c0 }. y+ }$ s$ {+ I5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
- n' O: c7 P' G# s6 f1 p. Yreferenda.
' I3 D) @, Y/ ^% ?3 j+ e( {; d4 k9 x. I8 i
6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  ( I8 S6 }0 `+ p8 E7 q8 p( f  O
parties.- I# e( Y, Y: Y! S+ L( t1 v3 t

' p; p0 w6 q( c: I  ^) y% @7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/ : W! I9 d; u# x/ u5 i$ Y. u

; i- g" E" x) L# W4 j To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
; c3 U. y: h6 {" {Bylaw 2000.

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  ; u* A8 @6 E, a; f5 o+ c- ^1 ?
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
- e/ @8 u( g9 s' Ifrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
6 L2 \+ \3 s- R  H* I( V, e, d8 N6 lof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.  O: {! H2 y. r5 N. D, |5 p/ M

11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
) C5 S) z) \' qthe course of an election/referendum.

12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
, L9 `0 ~" ^. r' {$ m6 U0 b" w( N2 qprocess is in place.

# c3 E5 N8 w& }8 P13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
, ?" w$ R( T2 o9 P+ \% W! z/ Y3 ]of activities and recommendations.

# `6 f! b( `/ {' G1 a' q, S- Y14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  + {/ H- k: }+ |$ B' V
of campaigning.# r, r! h  V8 }% W/ `. u

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  
! j! ^5 J) L4 V4 xAdministration Committee.8 Q+ g- I, x  t$ V. h

- d4 I0 X' s$ d9 [QUALIFICATIONS:
' f6 V4 |7 C5 g/ P* ]$ s
9 W: K; z1 v: K+ ?1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
' N& S7 n( p2 @$ f$ Cfor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  , s1 N3 u3 Y- m0 l" ]% W5 y; V& g
Union member.
: D4 i$ G$ m* @& E+ U4 \* J$ J9 s: c
2) Must have some experience in student elections.
& A. t# j1 L; r, O- _- D$ k9 K9 R' V
3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  % d1 [2 E& A5 ~& z0 ?' |8 b2 P8 o
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  . W2 b3 g4 b! E) X
with the Students' Union.

+ k! E$ ^/ G5 u) o9 A" M4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.9 L. P9 U$ R5 m$ H3 u

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University
