Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
7 O3 N' T  a4 U- _•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
8 |# p% ?& l$ X7 \# \) V•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
+ j& N) {5 b" e, y! Z& e2 T% y  e+ J•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
" V" M) h0 P1 V, f•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
$ W  ~& }& `: a6 \. u( k0 d•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
/ Y: V$ k! N6 r) q2 [•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
3 A4 L. s9 g7 x$ A; d•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
/ g: t3 k& Y- H2 _•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
) b+ ?1 ~1 `% }8 u3 Iof the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
- Z1 L& i* [1 K; J4 d5 S+ z# t1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
, r/ r# F8 v7 s7 p4 E3 WPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
