$ t7 U4 Q! M5 s6 g1 z) HEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.; g  P- g, L, g- Q

FUNCTIONS:
1 `# |) u" y( j•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
0 {, }, ^6 @& m* `' W•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
4 q5 u' g+ [  f•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.  t8 A# I( S1 ]. i
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
* v1 N3 ~+ r' e9 |and traffic conditions. 9 X! `) O; O: X  H  Y
•        Adhere to schedules.
' [9 G, [6 U' D; C•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
! x& o  g1 E$ e+ e•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.* d4 a# Z( e) H  c
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.- Y4 N" Q' y2 w, H- H5 k5 }
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations./ W8 H: D- W3 Y% U1 n
•        Provide excellent customer service.

8 Z% }' K3 [! ~4 K- q5 H•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
" d: q% \# a2 y•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
3 ^8 W) K1 q* e! @1 n9 vto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger 4 i+ F  ?$ E, x( v5 }
of the day.6 k% p$ U2 @; p# U) T2 W/ f6 K
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
; I3 l: `" O: z  f•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
4 ^0 P$ |0 n3 K! s6 t+ B•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
& }2 }% W: @4 i% g9 k4 I3 r3 [4 q•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) * {. ?" z' s4 j1 c5 g. n1 ]
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.   L9 t* z/ C0 \9 q+ C
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
* T- _- q1 ]1 w& Rvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).3 Z' [2 p+ k' d% U
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
: `: f8 q* Q/ \3 R•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.3 X3 N* @1 D" G7 U4 C# i: r; [' f

3 M) n! B* d; U+ cVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week

$ V) z' c# b, P4 P' }4 x' vThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
