Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.5 \- K8 z& ^! m/ ]1 T

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.2 O4 v; a* a( Y! S
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.3 `/ n6 ~: q9 [
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
7 F. f9 R0 {* O7 z* K# @• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
! |- z* F$ \8 h4 \- w1 B* [4 N• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.6 ~& M: O- ?7 g1 c0 _% s
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability 1 F/ U }- X% Q9 ?. H- p- F
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

/ A" H2 d* \7 t% ]• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
; w& k4 k) S+ ~* A1 p• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.1 r: o4 g9 D) h. ?! d
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
, p" H9 o: _+ G; X9 J• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) : C: x! W- o! \2 V2 D; k% Q( L
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
( V5 s' Q# k$ j4 Z! _• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
( ] n+ v7 M1 K# o2 }video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
1 _$ t j1 l3 L& Z: [. IVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week - {% d1 X( n% f' V! t6 ^1 Q9 ?
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly W( \( Z' t5 p$ k' [; ^% x
Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly$ o4 m# r- R/ k4 h6 ^# k5 f+ h

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
