Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
% W3 u T0 R$ u- W) S" u• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
# P# E9 Z6 F8 F• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
* H3 S. F( \8 p) E5 a1 R) l• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.) z k* j# l; U3 J# K+ k
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.)./ D8 f) ?3 ^, i2 E
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years. U% Y! O) E3 w1 }
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
% [* a& X5 v8 v• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) & ?4 |- P& A+ ], W% E
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. - c4 o! ^" t6 u* h3 `5 |+ Y
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
1 E* V( X4 B* O: v. u" A. uvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).$ r. s) k: p! K; B0 s
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week

Training Rate: $16.56 Hourly
