) o5 D4 l* w4 B5 QEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
' M! ]2 P7 v2 f: E1 a6 }•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
; u6 O% [6 a  ~# i4 k3 l7 f•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
* q$ j$ `/ e7 g: Z, c) [•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
" ^; G$ Y4 J  w2 Band traffic conditions.

. Y, [! q) C8 s# e0 [9 Y/ N& O) x5 ?•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

/ I1 Z7 _% h" E4 J' k: x" ?JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
/ @  H2 R! i" w4 l& B  Yto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
4 B: k. {' u) S( A1 k7 x+ X•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
4 v4 K& p3 s  o7 \; u•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
7 O8 P1 R. ^2 O/ g•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.

0 H. s8 n3 V8 d% o& ~- fvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

  |+ w' k* v. O5 K& W) fHOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
' @8 L3 c" ?8 G* |1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
+ ]2 J8 j9 G8 V: Q7 l/ zTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
