Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
% W3 u  T0 R$ u- W) S" u•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
# P# E9 Z6 F8 F•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
* H3 S. F( \8 p) E5 a1 R) l•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
% D2 \; X# W+ `& g! ~: V6 N- Hand traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
; V) |+ L2 l9 u3 I4 o•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
* u; i. G5 D+ Z9 ?2 s•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
6 S. R8 X, W/ x  }) \to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
+ u: ?5 r4 I( n( o& ~- A2 Cof the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
% [* a& X5 v8 v•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
1 E* V( X4 B* O: v. u" A. uvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
3 \; n. {( j# I4 S•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week

4 R: }1 }5 u* U8 B, m: lThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
: v: G' Q6 X8 _2 GPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
