Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.

•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
) E- s2 l- T; `; d# X0 o. land traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
) b( L( H5 K, S, |; V3 ^•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
5 g. m9 S: d# [•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
7 V% Y6 `6 }8 d1 F' y5 Vto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
) u5 I( M, h% {4 e" [•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
* v7 h4 c3 @6 B/ P•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

. T( h2 c0 O$ v0 ~•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
3 n% c! j8 {6 e; n1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
9 G# h0 K+ j0 oThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
/ E' N) h, j) u. ~" _: sPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
