+ m" C; d1 w& P; G- F2 bEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.5 H3 j3 b, `) m2 N. Z, y$ y, C! g

( ]$ c; n) Y; z# u* \& ^: d& g•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.8 x& e) U2 c- @. H, D; t
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
( a) ^0 }% W; Y( A. p. X•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.* o- x2 g' z3 W6 H3 @( Q
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

•        Adhere to schedules.; i; w0 ~1 i7 ^' z7 J
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
+ C: }* C' R2 A- w/ a•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
* P! O2 T+ Q; h  `( D* l•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.+ u8 E. M( x! b! x, p1 v
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.! e( i3 n- t. U) X! r+ @4 I+ p2 t

•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
$ y, l- N3 p  A8 x•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
- N/ |/ G3 H' r3 D* u+ K! z2 N* rto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).- F7 H0 D2 D6 W7 A( u1 o2 @
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
4 H: D4 |( A& J& c) F* m! z+ F6 d•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.% ~1 s" O& J( C8 a( K9 y$ P- q
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) + q% y  @  K! t8 Y- l; T- C% b
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
" F- L5 C1 q$ T•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill ( x9 V0 Y9 X; f8 |
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).- z1 {4 k" {4 l5 u
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.% T3 R* m2 o  a) P
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:( _' e2 N/ i% P/ d6 O
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week : _; m3 v. k% a$ U% E' I$ c& Q4 _
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
1 F0 {4 D% {2 e4 a! G! ]3 `4 bThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly6 Z, E1 D1 Y6 i) w3 ~/ f

: n' c# }4 m$ l3 W8 DSALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004   s  P6 a/ J6 W' u3 a0 s
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
0 S+ W5 ?# E+ f1 S. ePost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
4 Q1 c4 Q' b2 D& \The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
