Good news. U of A plan to stop increase tuition for students who are recently in U of A. However, they will increase tuition the current students who will go to U of A next year. Sounds fair. I deeply agree.

Dear International Undergraduate Students,

Yesterday, the Academic Planning Committee of the General Faculties
$ p; O, `' \) @8 z9 @6 J0 F: wCouncil met to discuss the tuition proposals. I have both good and bad
, N9 v- ?3 O. @news to report from that meeting.

First, the good news. The committee decided to grandfather all current
* c8 L2 s7 z2 U1 ~+ k  }undergraduate international students from the increase to the
differential fee. This means that next year, all current international
students will pay the same tuition as this year, plus whatever base
" }3 Y' G& _/ p6 w9 l* P- Dtuition increase that all students face (the proposal calls for 5.75%).
Also, the administration decided to withdraw their motion to increase
# g8 i7 x! B: l- q* b% j. }the differential for international graduate students.

Now, the bad news. The motion that the committee approved called for an
2 @5 T6 l1 v' Q# g, rincrease in the international undergraduate differential from 157% to
220%. This will mean that all new international undergraduate students
will pay $15,353.89 (assuming that the 5.75% increase happens). At
least, all new students will know what the U of A is charging in
; G: u6 @( \' Ptuition before they come and they will not face any large unexpected
7 W$ V) @$ x" G) [9 g7 W& jincreases once they are here.

5 T6 Y, ]; k: \( f. X; Pinternational differential as well as the base tuition increase. I
# ^  M) O7 c0 X& l6 Mwould like to say thank you to all of the international students that
; {  g9 g& N/ Y( k9 M7 O+ ghave sent me emails, come out to consultations, and opposed this
increase. I couldn't have got the increase grandfathered without your
" ?& n# r8 y1 C# {1 Xhelp. Thank you.
