Question about adding engine oil?

Hi, I just bought a car and now more engine needed to be added(as the add engine oil indicator light is on). But I am not sure if I have to change the engine oil first before adding the new one. Since I am not sure what brand the old engine old is, so my question is "is it ok just to add the new engine oil to my car without changing the engine oil." (The engine oil was just changed 2 months ago.)

The oil consumption seems to be awfully high.
